It might be a little early, but since we have folks with multiple admissions already (yay!), I thought it would be helpful to those of us on waitlists if we had a thread like this.

So...which schools are you gracefully declining?

I wish I had a reply for the original question, I just wanted to say how much I appreciate your eagerness, claws 😀

I haven't declined admission anywhere, but I did decline an interview from WSU today officially (I had been planning on it, but was putting it off because it just feels wrong) and will probably be declining another interview in the next week (I know it's a waste of money to make the trip, but I'm having trouble officially saying no). So, those should at least open up interview spots?

Declined an interview for Western... Good Luck everyone!

I just want to say muchas gracias to all of you who are declining interviews in advance and opening up spots for those of us who haven't quite made it as far in the admissions process as you, rather than getting as many acceptances as possible.

cancelled my western interview

Declined interview at Illinois and withdrew early from Penn.

I declined my interview invites at Tufts and Illinois- hope this frees up a spot for some of you waiting for interviews. It somehow feels so wrong turning down interviews even if i have already been accepted somewhere

Declined my interview with RVC. I may be declining another one in the coming week.

Updating to add that I have declined my interview at Illinois.

Declined interview at Atlantic Veterinary college in Canada.

speaking as a completely biased party...i would also like to encourage those of you sitting on multiple acceptances to turn down anyone you know you will not be attending...for those of us on waitlists. and thank those of you who have done so. csu in particular...please???

Just so you aren't obsessing all spring... I think most schools wait to start in on their waitlist until after April 15th (deadline for accepting a seat if you've been offered one), because some schools offer more acceptances than they know they have seats for. That's not to say you won't get called at some point, it just means you have to wait a little longer. Sorry.

I know how you feel about the waitlist thing, last year it was me, and it was brutal 🙁 With that said, I will be turning down my acceptances at Washington State and Oregon State as a NV sponsored WICHE applicant

I'm probably going to decline Oregon OOS as well 🙁 still sitting on it, just because it feels so horrid to go declining things after working so hard to get in, but I'll probably bring myself to do it within the week or so. I'm still waiting on my others... have to have all cards on the table!

I turned down my interviews with Glasgow and London.

Withdrawing my app from Penn tomorrow! (In state)

Edit: Have decided to accept my interview invite after all and give Penn a chance 🙂

So does that mean you're accepting KSU??

No, just that I would absolutely choose KSU over Penn any day! I still have an interview at VMRCVM next Tuesday that I'm pretty excited about 🙂

Really! Good luck! I've not been to UPenn so I can't compare. Congrats on the acceptance today by the way!!!🙂

Thanks! And congrats to you also! Perhaps we'll be classmates!! 🙂

As for Penn, I know it's a huge draw for most people.. but having lived in the Philadelphia-area my entire life (and using Penn on occasion for my own pets) I'm just over it. Nothing against the school, I just hate the area and I'm ready for a change! Plus, it's cheaper for me to be OOS @ KSU than IS at Penn. Criminy.

😱 Everyone keeps talking about how expensive Penn is. Yikes! Out of curiosity, does anyone have IS/OOS numbers off the top of their head? I'm nosy. 🙂

Plus, you need to figure in the cost of living in Philadelphia!

I declined an interview at Purdue today for 2/22.

My admission at Edinburgh and my interview at Illinois are up for grabs, good luck!

I have declined my acceptance at Washington State as a Hawaii sponsored WICHE applicant.

Truth be told, I still regret I didn't know in was common practice for students who received multiple admission offers to accept them all and then let the "winning" school know by showing up there on the first day of classes. I think things would've been very different if I was aware of the practice and not so naive as to think everyone did as told and made their final decision by the published deadline.

Not saying anyone here should do this, but if there's a legitimate reason why you need more time than the "deadline" allows.... Otherwise, do the right thing and officially decline those you know you aren't going to go to.

Yeah, every time I look at the IS number for Penn I get a little more ticked off. It's an AMAZING school...but I guess I have a bit of a problem paying more to go in-state than to get the experience of living somewhere different and paying LESS to attend OOS.

100% agreed.

That is absolutely terrible! It takes an awfully selfish, arrogant person to do something like that. Any suggestions on how to handle that sort of thing?

I find that hard to believe. Who would think it was worth paying all of those deposits just to leave the schools in suspense or somehow "stick it to them?" Not to mention screwing other people out of their rightful space until the last minute. I just can't belive this is or was common practice. Not unless other aspects of the system were also very very different.

Not all schools require deposits...I guess maybe that's why they can call you off a waitlist as late as September in some cases.

I'm just going to put a thank you researchvet out there -- you just made my chances of getting into my dream school better! 🙂

And obviously, congrats on your amazing previous admission offers!

i'm an alternate for missouri, so if anyone knows that they r not going there please let them know... they r my last hope!!! plus they were my first choice
:0)

thanks and congrats to everyone that got accepted so far

The waitlists don't usually start to move until the late spring/early summer. This is because most schools have a formula for accepting more than they need and they have to wade through how many they have vs. how many they have space for. Most of my friends who got in off the waitlist this year got in during late May/June, although a couple got in in August. It was just hard for them to move/change plans at the last minute. So be aware of that!

Declining Minnesota interview as well, and also Oregon acceptance.

Sending out a special thank you to hoodle as well -- I appreciate you removing your very talented and obviously adcom desireable self from the pool for MN. Congrats on your apps though, would that we could all be like you!

I declined my acceptance with Kansas State, University Edinburgh, and University College of Dublin

I declined my interviews with Penn, Minnesota, and Mississippi

I declined my UF interview this morning. Best of luck to those on the interview waitlist!! :luck:

Reviving this post to ask -- how do I go about rescinding my application? Do I just call admissions? Do I need to send a letter? Anyone know? It's for Penn, specifically.

I would just call Penn's office and let them know what's up.

You can try to call but they might require a written note. When I tried to call to withdraw from PEI I was told they needed it in writing--but e-mail was okay.

I sent an email to Penn's office, and then got a brief email back confirming my decision, and a formal letter about a month later.

I am declining my admission at Ross.

Maybe its me and my inability to make decisions - but does anyone else have a hard time actually sending those email/making those calls? I mean i feel good that I have an option (which is more than I could ask for) and I am opening up the opportunity for one of you guys (I hope) that are still waiting...but do you guys just feel like you worked so hard to get into vet school you don't want to actually turn someone down...

...ok maybe im silly and its just me😛
