Hello all..

Just a question from waitlist land..but is anyone intending to decline a Harvard acceptance. I'm trying to figure out what the chances are of getting off theis "unranked" waitlist .🙂

I would say I was declining Harvard...unfortunately they declined me first

Although I don't have the facts to back this up...I'm pretty sure there will be people declining Harvard(Most likely because they want to go to UCSF or hopkins or columbia, so on and so forth). . I've heard that Harvard usually has the least amount of people declining their offers but there are still quite a few people who do. With that in mind....it would still be difficult to gauge your chances off the waitlist. Keep in mind that practically all schools accept more students than they have seats for because they know some of those people will decline. So just because people decline acceptances doesn't mean the school will automatically go to their waitlist. Thats why unless you know the exact number of people declining their offers it would still be difficult to gauge from just a few posters saying they will decline. Guess you're just going to have to rough it out like every other waitlistee out there.

good luck!!!

I remember reading a pdf comparing stats for the "top 12" schools in 2000. For HMS, the overall % of students accepted who matriculated was 66%. This was one of the highest of the top 12 schools; I think stanford was one of the last of the top 12, close to like 40% (this was from stanford adcom minutes, so they were citing ways to improve this).

hope this helps...it suggests that of every acceptance offered, maybe 2/3 will take it. the question left unanswered is how many outright acceptances they offer, and i've no idea.
