Defer 3rd yr rotation to do Research?

What are your opinions on deferring 3rd year Psych rotation to do research instead?

(I would be forced to do Psych rotation 1st during 4th year, so it will decrease the time I have to do externships before early Match).

It depends on the situation. If you are likely to publish and/or receive a strong letter, an early research rotation may help out.
If this is not the case, you may want to save that time in early summer of 4th year for an away rotation. Many on this board have recommended 2 ophtho letters and research may get you one early.

Is it possible to defer your psych rotation to a later month in fourth year? I talked my school into letting me do OB-gyn as my last rotation of the my fourth year fall semester. The only catch is that I had to basically sacrifice one of my free months to do it (in addition to the month I'll spend doing research).
