Hey guys,

I had a question: Right now, I know someone who is applying to pharmacy schools (in the process of interviewing) but has been developing an interest in medical school. Right now, he is a junior in college. Since he is unsure, I suggested that he defer any pharmacy school acceptances, apply to medical school in the summer, and in the meantime, participate in more involved medical/pharmacy experiences that would help him make his decision. That way, he would have both medical and pharmacy school acceptances by the time he graduates so that he can go straight to either school. Would this be allowed to defer pharmacy school and then subsequently apply to medical schools?

a lot of schools don't allow you to defer (i dont know where your friend applied) your acceptance to a later date. you either have to say yes ill be starting pharmacy school in the fall or no i wont be attending. if your friend can't make a decision, he should probably just wait until next year to apply to med school or reapply to pharm school.

Say the reason is to finish his undergraduate education. He originally was going to skip out on his senior year to attend pharmacy school. Now, he'll defer in order to finish college. Would that work?

The main concern I am having about him doing this is that if medical schools won't allow him to apply, given that he's holding a pharm school acceptance.

How would they even know something like that?

In addition, are there any repercussions from breaking a deferral in case he gets into medical school and decides to back out on his deferral to pharm school?

Lol, I doubt it. What are they gonna send the pharmacy police after him??

Ask on the allopathic forum, but it's quite possible he might have to disclose that.

It also depends on the school too regarding deferring, some easily let you defer - the first school I got in talked about it quite openly, others only will let you defer for extraordinary circumstances - life threatening sudden illenes, personal tragedy and etc.
