I have an ii to the one school I applied to. Had to add one school when I submitted my primary and I had a late MCAT test date (Sept). The score was meh, high 20's, but got a 6 in PS. BC of this I didn't apply where I wanted. I'm retaking in 2 weeks and given how my practice tests are going I'm looking at something in the 33-35 range. What happens if I get an offer of admission, defer as I've moved my curriculum around to take an extra year (hooray financial aid and full rides), aka won't be graduating this spring, and reapply next cycle with a better score?

Basically wondering if I can defer and reapply while holding the admission to see what happens next cycle...or must I decline admission and reapply everywhere including the school I'm hypothetically admitted to?

I'm a URM, veteran, have a 3.9+ gpa and am coming from a top 10 UG institution...very strong focused EC's along w/the veteran & urm status so feel good I'll get some love if I can just crank out a balanced 30+

If you don't want to go to the school, withdraw immediately. Turning down an acceptance without very good reasons (family illness/emergency, etc) is pretty much tantamount to future application suicide. You will have to report that acceptance on your application next year and you can't defer and reapply. So you would have to decline or accept the acceptance. If you deferred, it would be to finish your degree, not to reapply to medical school. Not every school has lenient deferral policies so I would also find out what the school you applied to policies are regarding deferral.

On the other note, why did you apply to this school if you have no interest in attending and aren't even finished with your degree?

Had to apply somewhere b/c i took a Sept MCAT and needed my primary verified. When the score came back lower than anticipated I realized I could stretch out my BS another year since I'm on a full ride while going through the cycle next yr.

You must withdraw your application immediately. If accepted you cannot matriculate as you won't have finished your current degree. You cannot take an acceptance then ask for a deferrence becase you decided to spend an extra year at undergrad.

Even with your veteran status, turn down an acceptance in the hope you can do better the following year elsewhere, and you will have terminated your medical career.

Why did you apply to a place if you didn't want to go there???

Adcoms frown upon poor choice making.
