I recently took a pair of degus home from the humane society to foster, since they don't really have a place for exotic animals at the small shelter. They have not been socialized and aren't really friendly (a little, but not like most pets). I determined them to be male and female... and the female is looking fat, so we are going to attempt to neuter the male soon (since females go into heat right after parturition).
Well now the humane society is not sure they want them back and they think they will be hard to place (both good points- it is stressful there and they aren't the most loving of creatures). So.... anyone know of any degu rescues in Alabama? Anyone want a pair of degus? They are similar to chinchillas, but they are diurnal, which is nice. They need hay and dust baths and things to do. I feel bad because they are in a pretty small cage (bunny size) and I'd love for them to have a lot of room, but I can't provide that.
Any help/advice would be appreciated 🙂
