Hello,

Do you know if a psychiatrist can be a supervisor for a psych assistant? I am a registered psych associate in CA and want to transition over to a psych assistant in Delaware. I have a psychiatrist who is willing to be my supervisor to accrue clinical hours. The board is slow on getting back to me! Any info would be great!!!

Seems pretty clear in the statutes

"(6) “Psychological assistant” shall mean a person who is registered with the Board to perform certain functions within the practice of psychology, only under the direct supervision of a supervising psychologist, and who is authorized by the Board to use the title “psychological assistant.” The Board in its rules and regulations will specify the arrangements for supervision by the licensed psychologist."

It states psychologist or licensed physician in psychiatry.

Personally, I would go over what the actual statute says, as opposed to a form that someone made. The statute is what will be litigated in case of any issue. But, as always, see what the board says and make sure you get things in writing.
Agreed. And definitely wait to hear back from the board, especially given what the quoted statute says. Maybe there's a similar provision buried somewhere relating to the use of psych assistants by psychiatrists.

Also, I'm a bit confused (it's early on a Monday morning): are you wanting to work/function solely as a psych assistant, or are you accruing hours toward licensure as a psychologist? The form you've linked is specifically for the latter.
