I'm taking a gap year and I'm planning on applying next June after I graduate, but I still need to take anatomy and the second OChem lab for med school (which aren't required by my major). I'm wondering if I should delay graduation to that summer or take the lab and anatomy during post bacc or nondegree seeking (I don't really know how either work).

Thanks

In the past, AAMC has counted any undergrad work done AFTER receiving a BA or BS as post bac work, and any work prior to receiving a BA or BS as regular undergrad work. Post bac work will stand out. I don't know if that's relevant in your situation. Just pointing it out.

If financial aid is a factor, you can only receive 12500 per year in stafford loans as a post bacc to the best of my knowledge, and this is limited to 2 years if you aren't seeking another degree. I'd say extend if you don't need to take any time off, personally. I suppose the only advantage to getting your degree now would be for work purposes, but these days I'm not sure how much of a difference that makes.

Okay thanks! Also since the second ochem lab is required, am I even allowed to take it as postbacc assuming I apply before the postbacc how would they even be sure I'm going to take it?

I'm not sure about the specifics of your school, but I've had no problems taking labs, etc. as a post bacc. As far as not completing all your prereqs before applying to med school, I think that depends on the school and class, yes?
