Delaying app in the summer to retake 2 intro bio classes, will they replace 3 quarter grades?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
One course replaces one course. You cannot take one semester bio course and replace 2 quarters of that course. Also, it seems that the course titles are different. I doubt they will replace.

The titles are different but the content is the same. I could send them the catalog description like they ask for English classes taken outside the English department.

It will be up to AACOMAS' discretion but nonetheless, you can only replace courses on a one-to-one basis. Good luck.

AACOMAS has 1:1 replacement.

In terms of timing, my recommendation is complete the app and select one school to send to that you may or may not be that interested in - get that app verified. When you get your grades, update AACOMAS and then after those scores are posted and the GPA is updated select all your schools.

Verifications takes way longer than an update. May not seem like much now, but when you see everyone getting IIs and acceptances while you're still stuck "processing", you'll kick yourself for waiting.

3.1 sGPA will still get you screened from some DO schools, KCUMB off the top of my head, there may be a few more.

Only KCU has a cutoff that high and I'm not applying there. Every other school has either a 2.75 or a 3.0 minimum.

I never thought about it like that, I figured an update and verification would take the same amount of time since you are sending in transcripts but I guess I am wrong.

I've been told by many (even SDN) that I am fine in Sept for DO. Has it changed that recently? Mind you I go to a quarter school and spring grades don't come out until ~June 20th. So by the time I get verified 4-5 weeks later it will be late July/Early August. Which is when the summer classes will be ending.

In terms of weeks, how long does an update take?

As for classes,

I think I will take Phys 1 and Bio 2 just to be 100% sure to replace 2 C's. I just looked up the Physics professor for the summer and ratemyprof says he is easy with extra credit HW. So now I'm not hesitant to take physics anymore.

What I'm worried about with taking Bio 1 and 2 is that there is a chance that AACOMAS may say "Bio 1 and 2 will replace only the B and C not the 2 C's since those are the first 2 bio classes in the series at your school"

Taking Bio 2 will for sure replace one C and Phys 1 will replace another C.

I'm definitely not an expert on it, but to give you an idea of my timeline - I submitted my primary June 13th and was verified July 11th. I submitted my MCAT score as an update on July 17th and it was received and uploaded 3 days later and schools received my updated app the following Tuesday.

Transcripts may take a little longer, but still grade updates I would say take a week or so.

You specify on your app in the class work section which courses you are trying to replace with which - they don't do it for you. For example, you call Bio 1 with a C "R1 and then a retake as "R1" as well and that is how they know to review it.

I don't know how much things have changed, but one thing that is indisputable is that it is becoming more and more competitive each and every year. September may be fine, but if you have a chance to get it in earlier I would.

Ok, by your method: I would submit to one school late June to be verified by late July (possible secondary), then my summer grades would come out by mid August at the latest and my app would updated by late August at the latest. I would probably spend most of September doing ~15 secondary apps (I'm applying to 20 schools)
My interview cycle will technically be from October-May)

This looks to save me ~3 weeks vs just submitting to be sent in mid august and be verified by mid to late September.

This is all assuming that the transcript I send with the update doesn't take the 4-6 weeks like the transcripts for verification do.

Yes.

Keep in mind by August it's generally closer to 6 weeks for verification as more and more apps roll in.

Ok I'm just not understanding why only apply to 1 DO on June 1st....Why not just apply to all of the DO schools you intend to apply to on June 1st? Then when your summer grades are released, won't AACOMAS just update all the schools the same, as it would if you only applied to one school? Especially since on your application, you'll have the courses labeled as "In Progress" and Fall courses as "Planned"....?

Apply to 1 at first so that your GPA doesn't get you screened out of certain schools until you have it up as high as possible, and the only way to do that is to have the courses completed, updated and verified.

It boils down to waiting 6 weeks versus 1 week once your grades are in.

Ok I gotcha. Thanks for clarifying. So there is no risk of there being a whole entire "re-verification" process once you send in your summer grades....?

Once your verified, your verified, then updating with new grades just updates those specific classes, not the whole entire application....?

Correct. Once you have been verified for the first time, they just go through and verify the new grades you submit. The rest of the application is left as is.
