what do you guys think? there is a similar thread in pre pharmacy but i was wondering specifically for med schools..

do you think its necessary to delete your profile while you are applying? or perhaps just during interviews if you think your interviewer may look you up?

is making all of your photos private and your account private sufficient?

Masking your account should be good enough. Just go to account settings and make yourself unsearchable. Sure, if you have long lost friends that want to contact you, they may never get the chance, but at least adcoms won't see the crazy part you were at last year.

Agreed, just change your privary settings so "only friends" can see your profile. Make yourself unsearchable if you want to go that far.

I know several people changed their account name to a nickname and used some nondescript profile pic from halloween in addition to changing privacy settings. I usually lost track of who they were and deleted them during random facebook pruning.™

Frankly I don't see what the major dilemma is here. You don't have to do anything rash. It is quite simple. First, I make my profile only available for friends. Then, just in case, I do not put anything online that I would regret putting up later. It is amazing how easy solutions can be. If you want to go even farther, detag yourself in any of your friends' pictures you may not like.

If you want to put pictures of yourself getting drunk or smoking the bong so that your friends think you are cool, then that is your problem.

Um actually its more of an issue for tagged photos, of OTHER people ,putting pcitures of you up of you keg standing or taken a major dose of bong rippage.

Just deactivate your account, you get to keep all your friends but your account essentially goes dormant. As soon as you start up med school you can reactivate and resume your alter-ego 😀

or just be like me-- so boring and lame that your whole life could go on facebook and it wouldn't matter. :lame:

although i still have my privacy preferences set pretty high.

Haha - me too. There's nothing on my FB I'd feel the need to hide from my grandma, or an interviewer- it's all pics of camping, biking, or various other outdoor activities. High five for the boring kids!

Yes. No one gets into medical school with an active Facebook account.

To the OP, if you're like that in the first place you shouldn't be entering medicine in the first place. As for me, I personally wouldn't mind if adcoms saw my profile. After all, I'm a good ol' boy!

You mean if you're the kind of person who went to college?

oh good god. :barf: even as a boring person i recognize how stupid that comment is. there's nothing wrong with partying responsibly, and with that come pictures (most of the time). jeez.

Um, people do realize that the internet is forever, right? All those "fun" photographs can be stored on anyone's harddrive with a simple Right Click>Save As... and then e-mailed for the rest of the world to see. I can't believe some of the photos people put online because they think only their friends will see them.

Yeah, just go private. or change the spelling of your name. No one will know. Change where you live. They can't find you without name and city.
