Are you an Australian citizen or a US citizen?

This past year, only 8 US IMGs matched into radiology according to NBME data (p. 7). In general, it's harder for IMGs to match into more competitive specialties. With Step 1 going pass/fail, it removes on area where an IMG can really set themselves apart as a stellar student. If you want to practice in the US, going to a US med school would be your best option.

Hi thanks so much for your response! I am a US citizen however I originally studied abroad as a Finance student and was a bit careless with my GPA. Because of this fact, going through AMCAS hinders me because they require all past coursework taken at the University level to be calculated in to their GPA.

In comparison, Australian med schools have a GPA cut off for interview as well as only taking in to consideration the GPA of your most current degree (or weighting prior coursework less) which as I transferred to the US a couple years back and have pursued a new degree in Psychology this degree will only be taken into account for AUS MD schools. For context I am set to graduate with a cum GPA of 3.92.

Naturally, I'd love to go through AMCAS and try for US MD or DO but the past degree performance is bad enough to completely derail my application. I am competitive for top universities in Australia however due to the stipulations mentioned.
There are schools that reward for re-invention. I'm assuming you didn't take your science courses during your finance degree, so your science GPA may be really high.

I didn't have a great undergrad GPA (3.4 total, 3.0 science), but ended up taking some classes to boost my science GPA (3.8 science over 60 credit hours) and got into a US MD school.

If you have a MCAT score, I recommend posting your information in the What are my chances? forum and having an ADCOM help you make a school list.
