You can't go wrong with a PLANNED growth year. The question I have is what is your endgame?
You probably know better than most that high-stats are a ticket to getting into medical school in Canada, but they also will run you through MMI stations and favor those who really have demonstrated a commitment to being in primary care, especially given the crisis with pediatrics and GP in the country. The Canadian healthcare system is remarkably different than the US, and obviously the pay scales and reimbursement are a huge contrast. (And of course, for Queens, you have to be selected with their admission lottery after all of those hoops.)
In general, WHERE you did clinical shadowing will tip admissions about that endgame. I know it's a real challenge to get shadowing in the provinces vs. the states, though as an international, I'm sure getting that experience was no cake walk. Research is an easier route for internationals in general, so I would encourage you to think about MD/PhD options (we have the Physician Scientists forum where they usually hang out) and your chances there.
