If finances are a huge factor, I'd wait until finaid comes out and you update it here before anything useful comes about because it widely changes. If penn gives you 5k a year and you have to pay 90k, that's a lot different than if penn gives you full or even half tuition.

Penn already gave out the full-tuition scholarships and unfortunately, I did not receive one. Even if they gave me half-tuition, is it worth it? It would still cost considerably more than NYU LISOM. I definitely am waiting on the package before making decisions though.

I guess I meant wait for the financial aid package and update us if finances matter here. In general, for those who are sensitive to finances, it's best to get the COA difference before filling this out. With your interests in research (and nyu li focus on primary care), I figured there's a price premium I'd pay for penn.

If you're 100% sure you want peds and like the NYU residency program enough, that's a pretty sweet deal. On the other hand, you'll have no problem matching peds from penn - you will just have to go through the process. But yeah, see if finances change the picture.

On the other hand, Luke OP said, CHOP of penn is one of the best in the US, great for pediatrics residencies.

I agree. I mean it really comes down to this.

3 year MD + Guaranteed Residency in Peds + no tuition

vs.

4 year degree + (almost) guaranteed residency in Peds + possible full CoA

I can see why the NYULI program is appealing. Caveat being that OP is all in on Peds.

Right, but op is also interested in research. And my guess is nyu li is mostly primary care (especially if it's 3 years and you can't do research). Penn is pretty big on research and places their students well to academic residencies.

If you are interested in peds, the Penn residency program is in the top 2 in the country. NYU's is not comparable.

Now, this depends what you want to do in peds. Do you want to be a primary care pediatrician in private practice? Then it doesn't matter which residency you go to. If you want to be an academic pediatrician, then going to Penn and having access to CHOP would open a lot of doors for you.

If you don't end up getting money from Penn, I would go to them with the LI offer and see if they can match it. Penn historically matches money pretty well.
