I'm going to be starting pharmacy school this fall and I'm just curious what the demand is for Pharmacy Interns in the Orange County area. I'd really like to be able to work at a pharmacy on the weekends but I'm afraid it will be difficult to find a position.

I was from Orange County when I started pharmacy school...but moved on campus once school strated. It was October when I got my intern license. I needed to work not because I wanted to learn...but I needed the money.

I opened the yellow pages...under Hospitals.. started calling the pharmacy department and asked to speak to the director of pharmacy... I got lucky. By the time I reached C, Childrens Hospital LA.. the director immdiately wanted to hire me..

I basically told em.."Hello.. I'm a first year intern with no experience..and I'm poor..I'm willing to work every weekend. What I lack in experience..I'll make it up with effort."

I started the next weekend. And worked there until my 4th year.

There are a lot of hospitals in Greater LA area... call them all. You'll find one...all you need is one job.

What's an intern license? Never heard that before 🙁

Btw, how do you obtain one?

Some pharmacy schools provide their students with an intern license, which allows them to work in a pharmacy. Schools require a certain number of hours upon graduation.

Thank you, TCB.

At my school, we were given the form to fill out for our intern license which we had to then mail to the State Board of Pharmacy. We were then eligible for intern pay rates at local pharmacies.
As far as intern hours are concerned, for licensure in this state (Arizona) the school works in enough intern hours during rotations in the curriculum to meet the state requirements.
