In an obviously science-based field, it might be rather hard to say some psychotic manifestations are caused by demonic possession. However, religious zealots may not have it any other way. If I am correct, The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders does attribute some space to "religious and spiritual causes" of mental illness.
