Simple practice versus others EMR (ex: Charm)

I have been using Simple Practice EMR. Submitting claims and billing are ok for the most part.
Checkin insurance eligibility is not good.

How do you guys compare Simple Practice with others EMR in regards to billing/ submitting claims?
I hear people talking about CHARM being a good option, but it seems its billing service can be more convolated than simple practice.

So I decided to try the CharmHealth EMR.
It has been a nightmare for me, especially if you take insurance.

I found Simple Practice to be more user friendly; not the best but better than Charm in my experience.
CharmHealth has too many unnecessary features for psychiatrists in my opinion. Answering service is slow too.
I don't see the positives that I read in this forum. Just the low fee?

I can't believe we don't have things much better than Simple practice and Charm.

Can you elaborate on what made it a nightmare? How long have you tried it? I am looking into implementing an EHR into my private practice and was going to try Charm first.

I didnt care for simple practice. I tried Valant for a year, and enjoyed how customizable and detailed it is. In particular the progress note is highly customizable which I found to be the best part. There were a lot of bugs, though, and I was on the phone with support often. They were very nice but many issues had no resolution. They once talked me through accessing and using what seemed to be a developer tool, doing some light coding. In particular the billing integration is, or let me say was for me, non-funtional and not resolvable by Valant. This caused a contract conflict with the billing service Waystar which wasted a fair amount of my time.

Im quite happy with Therapy Notes. Its far less customizable but it works. The interface is, for me, intuitive. I have billers but the billing function seems relatively simple and quite reliable.

Would that Luminello hadn't sold out.

Have you tried IntakeQ? For me it was the other choice other than Charm, which was largely cumbersome to set up although I customized it to be just the way I like it.

If I did it over, I might have just stuck with Luminello's conversion to SimplePractice... I spent a LOT of time with Charm trying to figure out how to use it.

Do you take insurance? I am looking at starting to take insurance as I transition out of a W2 role and have been looking at all the options. There really isn't one that stands out. It seems like you are giving something up with all of them - either cost, customizability, billing capability, lab integration, etc.

My assistant and I, going from the luminello [no longer available] to simple practice, overall had more positives on the billing side. Some things are not intuitive when fixing weird hiccups (luminello was better) but overall it's streamlined for routine billing.

Yes to limitations and no to integrated labs. There is also not a message-all-patients function.

Gotta put a good word in for Sessions Health. I used Luminello before they sold, for context. Sessions is the only other EHR I found that has the same feeling of "this is clean, straightforward, user friendly, and good at its job, and it's NOT half-assedly trying to look like it has bells and whistles that it doesn't... but nobody even asked for the bells and whistles in the first place, so why are they putting lipstick on a pig instead of directing those resources toward making the core functions less of a pain in the ass?"

I can't say enough good things about Sessions. Billing is straightforward for both OOP and insurance. Their help articles/tutorials are useful. Their customer service is actually responsive.

That is its main downside. I use drfirst/iprescribe, and it's also easy to use. It's a bit of an annoyance to enter new pts into drfirst, but only compared to luminello, where they were legit integrated. For my small practice, it's an easy tradeoff. Might not be for a larger practice.

So you found IntakeQ easier to set up, correct? Do they have electronic billing?

I still can't figure out the several steps to set up electronic billing with CHARM... Very confusing. And they only communicate through emails... Sometimes taking 1-2 days to answer each question...

They were both convoluted to set up the way I wanted but IntakeQ took way more clicks to get to what I want. I got frustrated enough to switch entirely to Charm.

Just give them a call. They've answered me right away every time although it's been a while since I've called: (855) 571-5557 option 2

I like it. You're still able to use iPrescribe via the iPhone app, and it's all synced.

there are some new emrs coming out (probably helped by the ai wave). we're looking at some of these and they seem like a big leap in performance and price point compared to the older emrs. we're strongly consider Hero (heroemr.com) and DrChrono (drchrono.com). DrChrono has improved a bit since a few years ago -- still pricey but seems to be the only solution where you're not trapped on a laptop.
