After seeing all the California applicants who were recently denied from UCI and all other Cali schools, I wanted to start this thread for all of us. If you're a CA resident and didn't get any in-state love, hopefully you got some elsewhere.

I'm just curious to see where those of us exiled from CA will be ending up this fall. The real stinger about being denied from CA is there are so few schools out here in the west compared to the east, and most of them just take their own residents for the most part. This makes it real hard to stay relatively close to family.

As for me, I'll likely end up in the Northeast. It's gonna be an adventure. Where you going?

Northeast or Northwest, but most likely not Cali. An adventure indeed.

Lol. What a nice yet sad thread. Well, I'm going to be NW. Oregon baby! Land of the....ummm...microbrews I think?

I'm actually uber excited. As far as I'm concerned it's an extension of Cali. Feels like I'm back in the Bay Area again 😍.

Somewhere in the Northeast or Midwest. Not 100% sure yet, but strongly leaning towards the former.

Thanks Westside! People seem great and the weather is more of what I like. I would take overcast and rain over hot (esp triple digit!) weather any day 👍

Hope you get good news from the schools you're waiting on!

No acceptances to any california schools yet and one wait list, so in the same boat as just about everyone I know lol. Does anyone actually get accepted to any Cali schools? I wouldn't be surprised if they don't actually accept anyone and it's all a big scam to pocket the application money 😀

misery likes company 🙁 absolutely no love from any Cali school....

when I become a doc, Im going to establish a med school here that is NOT in the top 50! So people like me have a shot of staying in the sate they love without breaking a leg (or a brain).

Thats a cause I would definitely get behind. I'd love to help in any way I can to further the crappiness of this new school and ensure it gets no where near top 50 status!

 School mission: The pursuit of crappiness

Didn't UC Riverside open this year? They're not ranked because they're brand new (maybe they're supposed to open next year)

Sadly medical school, residencies and physician positions in California will always been more competitive than their respective counterparts out of state. Because people want to live in California. Hell, the jobs even pay less despite the higher cost of living. Demand and supply, baby.

I am sorry you guys didn't get any Cali Love. I hope you all end up loving where you end up!

Riverside is going through accreditation right now, and will have it confirmed by the end of this month. But by the looks of it with state budge cuts they will be extending the UCR/UCLA program 1 more year, but who knows

it's official. another CA resident bites the dust.

top choice acceptance is now a private school in the city of NY, NY. definitely not bragging, i'm just a little bitter that i've gotten plenty of attention from solid schools across the nation, yet i'll have to leave CA. i will never understand this process...

good luck, everyone else.

oh, and buuuuuuumpity bump bump!

Sorry to hear 🙁. I'm sure you'll have a blast in NY though!
I am hoping to not join the group, guess ill find out really really soon...

Thank-you for this thread and sadly, I belong in this group as well. The rejections still sting even though it's been a couple of months. I can understand if they dislike me after meeting me in person but to not have the chance to even interview...sucks. 🙁

It's been Northeast love this whole application season for me so I'll most likely have to stock up with winter clothing soon.

It's far but consider Atlanta. The weather takes a lot less adjusting to than NE or MW weather and ATL is a fun city.

It's not that bad being away from Cali for a few years, just do well in med school and you can get back.

Good luck

I belong in this group as well, I am happy to just get any acceptance and knew I probably didn't have any shot at CA... off to the midwest for me (sooo much cold ugh)

There must be a few people who still have hope... poor bastards 😛

Lol Cali is overrated. I'm thinking of voluntarily exiling myself to the east coast.

Very, very likely heading to the midwest for the next four years ... while I would have loved to stayed a little closer to home, I have a lot of family out there and am kind of excited about the new experience.

I had a resident I was shadowing once tell me that you go to med school wherever you're lucky enough to get in, you do your residency where you actually want to live .. I think that's the mentality I'm going forward with

The weather in Oregon from mid June through mid October is fantastic. Plenty of pleasant warm days but little or no intense heat. No humidity. Sure it rains in the winter but that is what winters are for - to give Oregon its great water and green forests and valleys. The mountains are an hour to the east and the coast is an hour to the west from Portland, which is a fantastic city. Oregon is very cool.

Yeah I'm probably going to apply to 6 or 7 California schools including SC

So would you pick USC (private, expensive, but a good school in California) or a "better" (depending on your own preferences) school out of California??

UCLA has not released acceptances or rejections yet, and some people are still waiting on UCSF. I wouldn't mind east coast for 4 years as a new experience but still: :xf::xf::xf::xf::xf:!

Ya, I've only been there a few times briefly but I hear good things about weather. Lots of gorgeous running paths.

I'm currently living exactly the same distance from the Cali coast as I will be from the Oregon coast. Pretty stoked to have an ocean semi-close to escape to!
