Hey all,
Does anybody have a sample resume I can look at? I'm a dental assistant and am not sure how to word my job description on the resume. You dont have to show me the whole resume if concerned about privacy. I just want to see how people describe their experiences. PM if you want. Thanks!!

hello, fellow dental assistant. dental assistants like you and i get to have a rare advantage over other applicants with superior GPAs and DAT scores because...well....we actually know what the hell we're applying for. you gotta reflect back on your job experience, what you have done, what you felt when you first put your temp crown in the patient's mouth, how you interacted with patients, how you handled difficult situation, what you learned from the dentist you worked under, etc etc and put all that into string of cohesive sentence and let the adcom know that you and dentistry is like barry bonds and steroid.

how to go about putting all that into an essay is...well..thats your job to figure out.

ploarnut, the question wasn't how to write the personal essay. The poster wasn't sure how to concisely and accurately describe the role of a dental assistant in the work experience portion of the AADSAS application.

I would love to help but I never worked as an assistant. I, too, struggled with the work experience portion. My best advice, if you are still in school ask the career service office at your college...they deal with "perfecting" resumes all day, and their services are usually free. Hope this helps!

^^ Good post if she was asking about writing a personal statement.

However, her question pertained to putting together a resume. 🙂

Darn I was too slow with this haha oh well.

Well, I wasn't a dental assistant but I'm fairly confident when I say that I'm pretty sure s/he is applying for a job and I think you're applying to dental school.

It takes being a dental assistant to know what dental school is all about?

Most dental assistants I know either were hired off the street with no previous dental experience and were trained by the dentist....or they went to some 4 month tech school program to become the almighty dental assistant.

hey, we all gotta start from somewhere. and yes, being a dental assistant allows many people to see what the profession is about firsthandedly. assisting and doing some of the actual work and interacting with patients in a healthcare setting definitely helps one to find out whether or not he/she can really do this for the rest of his/her career. shadowing doesnt even compare to assisting.
