Are there any dentists here that own their own side businesses (ie. restaurants and franchises) while running a clinic?
If so, how is your experience with this.
Do you have an MBA?
Does your side business affect your quality of clinical work?
Thank you for your input! 🙂

Some more questions:
Did you have prior experience with owning your own business?
Was this the reason you chose dentistry over MD?
Has it affected the way your patients view your clinic? (If they knew you had business, they might see you as money hungry)
Do you enjoy the clinic or your business more? (ie. Which do you prioritize as more important?)

Not many dentists own other businesses besides their dental office. If they do own other businesses then they are probably related to dentistry like a lab, supply company, dental clinics. I think the reason for this is because most dentist's can barely run one dental office well and don't have any true business training. Most dentists are horribly inept at managing people, marketing, etc.

The side business has no effect on if you are viewed as money hungry or your clinical work. Most patients don't know if you have other businesses, but they do know the cars they see in the parking lot and if there is a nice then they think your money hungry.

I enjoy clinical dentistry and running a business equally. I'm good at both, but not great at either. I believe in providing a good service to patients and giving them a personal touch they wouldn't receive at other offices.

FYI, my side business is owning real estate.
