Has anyone worked with Dental dreams or Familia Dental before? How good/bad experience is it working there for fresh grad(s)?

Anyone on this one? Please, share your inputs, would really be grateful if someone, who has worked there before, could give some insight.

You can refer to this thread here for some insight. Dreams has a similar business model as this one. It's a volume driven Medicaid office. At least, the ones in Dallas are (I'm not sure if there are different companies that have that similar name).

If you hate it, can't you just quit, not show up, find a different job?

 SexyMariGal has a point. Same query - cannot you just quit? just wondering ...

Depending on the contract you sign you may be liable to the company if you quit early to pay back a portion of your earnings. I've seen a contract before that said if you quit before the contract was officially up in 1 year you owed the company $15,000 in restitution for training you. Read contracts carefully and have them reviewed by work contract lawyers before signing and see if you can change clauses that even if not enforceable could be a pain in the ass later. Depending on how a contract is written, some of the contract may not be enforceable, like no competition radius clauses and so forth, but if written correctly, and in some states, certain clauses can be enforced.

Even if it's not enforceable though, watch out. If it is in the contract and the owner is a real maniac with a lot of free time, money, and ego, he or she may tie you up with a big legal battle even though he knows he'll lose just to mess with you for quitting on them if he didn't like you. I know because I've seen it happen to one friend currently, and another friend a while back.

Worst ever place to work as an employee. My manger's grandmother was in Hospis, they refused to allow her to go and her grandmother passed away without saying goodbye. No body deserves bad treatment like this as a human being.Unfortunatly they have also been slapped with numerous lawsuits including wrongful death here in Chicago.

Familia Dental and Dental Dreams are two completely different companies; there is no association between the two.

In regards to the patient death of a former Dental Dreams' patient, the IL Dept of Professional Regulation investigated the matter and found no fault on the part of the dentist or dental staff. No legal action has been brought against Dental Dreams or any of its employees concerning this matter.

I've been with Dental Dreams for years and the company has a generous vacation policy for all levels of employees, time off is definitely granted for family emergencies.

That is untrue, Dental Dreams just hosted a recruiting event at UIC last week.

If only it was that simple,
when you move to a new place, there are more commitments that just a job
i have a family, kids' school, lease of the apartment and well the list goes on
i will for sure not renew the contract, but unfortunately I will have to work for
a few more months. I wish I could just not show up or quit today, but in a real world that is
not an option.

Thanks. Can you please elaborate more about your experience there? need more input!!

I guess if you are considering to work at familia dental, you must have talked to the recruiter for the company, the very pleasant and friendly guy.
I will start from there,
he will promise you sky in the stars if you work for the company, he will send you a contract that is unbelievable. he will keep calling you 4 times a day to sign the contract.
once you sign the contract, he will never answer your phone again unless you call him from a different no.
once you start the job, after a week, you will start getting calls from the so called clinical director. FYI the clinical director graduated 2 yrs ago and probably does not even know how to cut a cavity. he will start telling you that you are miserable and you are not making enough money. and I am serious, he will keep nagging every 15 days about your average and numbers and no matter how much you make, he will tell you that you are not working hard enough.
In the contract they mention a daily minimum or 30 % of prod, they will never pay you the daily minimum, they will only pay you the 30 %. you will call them, they say we will look into it, but you will never get the promised minimum.
they promise a sign on bonus, never pay the way they are supposed to, if at all they pay.
keep calling them but well they are thick skin businessmen, all they care about is their money and they have hell lot of excuses. you will be lucky if you get all your sign on bonus, I dont know anyone with me who has gotten all of it.
And well best of all I have seen them give people new contracts within a month. So now that you have started a job and settled down, here is a new contract which is nothing close to what you had previously signed.
People from the management will call you and dictate you what treatment to do and how to do it. someone who is not a dentist will tell you what to do with the patients.
Well I have a lot to say about familia dental, the only positive thing would be that I know what I would never do again. Well a few more months I guess.....

Gosh, who would've guessed all of this goes down at a place named "Familia Dental". Why don't you just call it "Chimichanga Dental" while you're at it.

So familia dental sounds pretty bad, but are there contract clauses that financially prevent you from quitting cause whether you look for a job and quit now or in 3 months either way you still need to find a job. So what's stopping you from looking now and quitting vs looking in 3 months and not resigning the contract?

I get that you have family and loans and bills. We all do, but if you wait 3 months you also increase competition from newly graduating students also looking for jobs.

Thanks for sharing your experience, that was kind of you to spare some time writing it. Good luck with future endeavors.

I've heard of many fresh grads having hard time with such corporate across entire nation. Yet, It's very surprising that noone is taking legal action against them.

I was looking for jobs, I was just taking my time, wanted to make sure it was the right one.
I have almost finalized on one.... and the thing is my contract expires in 2 months anyways.
Well the thing is the first 6 months you just dont understand whats going on, and by the time they start messing you up so much its already 7-8 months into the job and then you have to give them a 3 month notice if you want to leave. so this is what happened with me.
well I am glad its only 2 more months

I would like to add to this post, they will not sponsor the green card for people who need it.
Well I did not need any kind of sponsorship, 2 of my colleagues were promised that they would sponsor their green card right away, its been 10 months and there is no sign of it....... so they target the foreign graduates promising them H1 and green card sponsorship, but trust me they wouldnt do it, as it is economical for them hire fresh grads next yr than spend all that money on your green card.......

If you have any friends that are planning to join them, please advise them to be careful....

Thanks for the warning venkat!! Indeed helpful !! Best of luck to you for your future ventures !!!

Venakatbabu, i need to take your comments with a grain of salt. In fact you might even be from a competing company?! I know 2 different people from my school with familia dental and they both told me that they are happy with them. I probably would have been with them if they had an office in Austin.

At least i know the comment you made regarding the green card is definitely not true, therefor I can't trust the rest of your comments about them.

Don't trust everything that people say here.

3 more WEEKS 😀 and we are DONE Yayyyy!!!!

.... what if someone has signed a contract and they want to get away? Can I just sign a contract with them and few other companies and then cancel it or bail out ?

Read your contracts carefully and find a lawyer who deals with employee contracts and have him look through any contract and ask him those questions.

A contract is a binding legal agreement. If you sign 4 binding legal agreements that each say "I will work 5 days a week for your company for one year" and then try to bail on 3 of them, I have a feeling at least one of those employers will try to kick you in the a--.

Some contracts have a 30 day grace of at-will employment. Some will have a cost for breaking the contract early.

Really depends on your contract but do not sign it if you don't want to go. and if you signed the contract, either go or cancel by mutual agreement. I know someone who got sued for 25K and had to settle for about 18K if i remember correctly.

sexylori, I do not work for any competing company, I was just giving my honest opinion and stating what I went thro, good to hear that some dentists are happy at familia...... good for them, i hope they remain that way...... and well congrats on your graduation, welcome to the real world.......

I work in the corporate center. Awful. Awful awful AWFUL. They treat employees like garbage- corporate and offices. Very rarely will you ever do a "good job." Everything (yes. everything.) is horribly disorganized. I had a bad feeling when I interviewed, and stupid me thought I was just paranoid and went for the $$. Suffice it to say, I regret it. I regret it so much. 🙁
Been there less than a year and looking for an out. As fast as possible.

Run away from these places. Fast.

A good rule of thumb - if an offer sounds too good to be true, it probably is. $200k+ guaranteed your first year out, with a $5k signing bonus, with 6 weeks paid vacation, benefits, etc.? If it sounds something like that, be very, very wary. Why would they pay a brand new graduate this when someone several years out would take an offer like that in a heartbeat? Because the person several years out knows better....

one of my friends who had worked for these companies in texas, told me that familia dental had killed a child in a new mexico location. and with dental dreams being in the news for killing the child in chicago

i am applying for the upcoming year for pedo and hope i can change this. i heard this and i was very sad.

my friend told me that the corporations have these directors whom are either dentists or not, and lack experience. they pressure the dentists which leads to mistakes

i have to agree with sugar tooth👍

avoid dental dreams.
you have to suck up to a manager that has no dental education to receive patients. you'll probably make decent money butwill have to see a staggering number of medicaid patietns to make that money.

it's a dead end job
