Dental loupes

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I just put in an order for Orascoptics ttl HiRes III (3.5x). Their optics seemed to be of superior quality (although Heine's were really good too). Heine's 3.5 had a very small declanation angle so I'd have to lean over which defeats the purpose. Others had better prices but the images were blurry or would have a blue light reflection/tone. Can't wait to get them.

How about the weight... When I tried the 3.5x on, they felt significantly heavier than my 2.5x. Did you guys get used to the weight really quick?

Hi,

I am looking for broken dental loups of any brand. I need one half in good working condition.
If any friend here has a broken loups which are of not use, I would be happy to buy it.
Please write me back at [email protected].

Thanks

You absolutely should get a head light. It will make dentistry easier and more comfortable for you, and it will increase the quality of your work.

The operatory lights don't compare at all. The head light is brighter and more importantly it is pointed in the same direction as you eyes. This means there won't be shadows and that you can see into narrow spaces (like all the way to the apex of a root canal).

I use one and it is well worth $800, but it cost me less. Check out http://ultralightoptics.com/ for a cheaper one that works well. I use their model.

Also, remember that magnification increases your need for light. Finally, I recommend as much magnification that you can get in a lightweight loupe. Usually that is 3.5x.

I agree, the feather lite from ultra light optics is a very good option. Mine cost me around £500 (here in the UK) and is well worth it (https://www.ultralightoptics.co.uk). Love being able to see absolutely everything in the mouth without the shadowing from the operator light - can't believe I spent so long doing dentistry without it!

I own a Surgitel 2.5x TTL and a Lumadent 4.0x TTL.

I loved my Surgitel when I first began operative dentistry works but I ran into problems, including lenses falling out of Oakley frames, and their customer service was no good at all. That is when I decided to get a higher magnification Lumadent which I absolutely love, and not to mention was $500 cheaper than my Surgitel despite having higher magnification.

I still keep my Surgitel as a back-up pair.
