explain the history of the dental profession in a 300 page novel.

I'm planning on using a paper I wrote about how Gun Control statistically increases crime. That way I don't have to stress about writing anything new.

From the AADSAS website, [SIZE=-1]"Your Personal Statement should address why you desire to pursue a dental education and how a dental degree contributes to your personal and professional goals." Limit of 4500 characters including spaces.

IMO the essay is the only chance to express your personality. Tactful humor got me an interview. But no Dentist jokes!

you guys are stupid. just answer his question if you know it or get out of here if you dont.

Oh c'mon, it was just a joke. Laugh a little, it's good for you.

One that "Katalyst" mentioned is the only one I am aware of.
Some schools require secondary applications, with some short answer questions.

Some questions you might see in these secondary applications include (these are the ones I've seen so far):
1. Describe a problem in dentistry and how you would solve this.
2. Why dentistry?
3. Describe your leadership skills.
4. Describe your extracurricular activities.
5. Describe an ethical question that is relevant to dentistry and what you would do in the situation.

their not looking for a joke

Just because a person isn't looking for a joke, doesn't mean it hurts to make one...but those were really just smart-ass comments, not jokes. Either way...being serious all the time is a downer.

Thank you for the responses!

no wonder you look so serious in all of your movies Jet. You have something big stuck up your butt. I get it now.

😛

Well some schools essays are really just simply writing essays, questions are never hard. They just want to see what you can write and who you are. No big deal to stress over.

their not looking for a joke

Are they looking for correct spelling of homophones? Please tell me oh great one, What should I be looking for? 🙄

Man... you're intense. Just reading the tone of your response hurt my soul a little bit. I'm not going to argue with you ever again. :scared:

Nay. They don't seem too impressed by that sadly 🙁.

Sure they are! Here's what you do... get the dental admissions committee together in a room and perform this demonstration for them: jump into the air, and as you come down, thrust the palm of your hands into two layers of concrete, shattering them into halves. Splitting things like that ALWAYS make them gasp in pure surprise! 😱 I wonder why. Maybe a bunch of martial arts fanatics.

Well no wonder I haven't been getting too much love from schools - I don't have any experience breaking concrete. Afterall, speedbreaking wood boards is lame, as "board, no hit back."

There are a few videos of me on youtube though. I just hope the adcoms never find it. Nothing scandalous, just rather not have them picture me as an ape.

k, my obscure reference was too... obscure. well, the adcoms wouldn't gasp in surprise because they love seeing concrete being broken. it's the shocking thought of a dentist using his precious hands to break concrete.

I'm sure everyone discusses in their essay about how they like to work with their hands, so it's just another degree of risk. Most of it would be contusion damage anyhow, and that's only on the most incompetent of breaks. Not all the dentists I have been around coddle their hands - a few double as woodworkers and carpenters for our church and H4H. I mean, dentistry is not a good profession if one is looking for extended longevity for their hands.

I definitely don't have dishpan hands. My hands are actually on the rough and gross end of the spectrum. If anything though, it was a good thing to talk about during my interview 😉.

On a side note, in your essay do you really have to mention that you like working with your hands? I mean wouldn't that be a given? Would it hurt to not mention it or is it a must? Don't kill me please 😳

Just be yourself, they read a bunch of letter everyday, so they can tell if you are being honest or not.

Don't just go and say you like working with your hands. Let the content of the essay convey that for you.
