i will be next year a freshman at college but i want to ask something about dental school interview
at the interview the person who will interview me will care if i have an accent and if i say something and he doesn't understand it will told me excuse me or can you repeat it again
p.s:i moved from couples of months to USA and i have an accent and my english teacher told me it will be hard to lose my accent cause i am now 19 and i come too old to united states !!

!!!

Blunt English lesson: Stop using exclamation marks (!) period. 99% of the time it's used, it comes off as immature and unprofessional.

As for your question - you're not even a freshman yet, stop worrying about minuscule things that you can improve on with practice and worry about your pre-reqs. Yes, you will have an accent, but many students are accepted with one with no issue.

Wow, some people are so rude it's unbelievable.

You should be ashamed of yourself wildzodiac.

OP said they have an accent and asked if schools would ask "excuse me" or "can you repeat that again." They would likely say one of the two if they did not understand. Read OPs original post before you think I am trying to be a jerk...

Wow, if you don't think that was rude, well...

Apparently you need to practice the "tone" questions for RC some more.

It could be bad and it could be good, depending on how you play it. I have accent and what I've discovered is that people tend to accept it/ignore it if you are confident with it. While it is good to be able to speak like a native, don't push it too hard and be yourself. Besides, when you are in the interview, you will be unique and something different. The interviewer will most likely pay more attention to the unfamiliar accent and this gives you advantage to sell yourself out more easily.

An accent is fine--just make sure not to speak too fast!

Poor English skills won't be fine, though. Make sure you continue to work on your English, grammar, and writing skills throughout college. No worries, you have three years! 😀

Can you repeat that again?
do you what is the meaning of becoming a dentist is to give to the community, if you want to become a dentist when you make your interview you need to prove to them that you deserve your spot and after you graduated you can give to the community obviously you will not be able to do it
why you have to so f**** rude with someone who ask, you can just give her an answer. What if a patient ask you something are you gonna be rude with them too you will never be able to have money or even patients like this.

no i know a friend who moved when he was 18 from India and he still have an accent but he got many interviews from many dental school and now he attend Oregon dental school you just need to your English skills, grammar and writing you can go to any community college or an adult school and you will be fine

I meant no harm by it. She asked what would they probably say. If her accent is thick, then they will probably ask her to repeat it. I don't understand why everyone's panties are in a bundle. You guys are always so quick to judge me.

habiba, you have three years of living in a new country to perfect your english skills. Worry about your collegiate road ahead of you and take it one step at a time. 🙂

Accents could be sexy. Not a bad thing at all. be proud.
