Has anyone heard of this? I met with an admissions officer and they claim that they use a metric to determine whether or not to invite someone to an interview, firstly, based off of the DAT and their GPA. They claim to rank applicants 1-15 after the interview. The 15s get in at a 90% rate. The 14s get in at a 50% rate. And the 13s get in at a 10% rate. Is anyone familiar with this system?

I highly doubt they utilize those two factors alone, but yes, dental schools use algorithms to determine if a pre-dental student can become a successful dental student. When you actually interview you are directly competing with the people in your interview group and pre-interview information certainly plays a part.

I would venture that GPA and DAT make up a large chunk; however, with a school like UoP that pretty much accepts anyone who gets an interview, there are plenty of high GPA and high DAT who don't ever get invited.
From what I have "heard" (outside of SDN) GPA/DAT are like a gate to get in and the rest of the application is then considered and those who got through the gate are on equal playing field. (Kind of like how once you get an interview your application is "good enough" and now they care about your personality)

And of course there will always be exceptions so whose to say this is correct
