Yes, most schools have a Dean's Scholarship that is usually awarded for all 4 years and it is merit based. Some schools, like Penn, have a lot of information about it. Other schools don't really advertise it but give them out to the top students. I'm sure every school has a least some kind of merit based scholarship but they don't advertise until the student actually gets awarded. (sorry if that was confusing...) You can always call the schools you're interested in to get more info.

thanks for the info, it wasn't confusing at all. so basically you won't be able to just go to their web-site and find out the details of their merit-based scholarships... do you happen to know any schools that are well-known for giving out merit-based scholarships besides Penn?

plenty schools give out merit-based scholarships. temple, columbia, BU, umdnj, unc, uab, uw

The question isn't if a school gives out scholarships, but how much do they give? A $1,000 scholarship for a school that costs 100K per year to attend really isn't much of a bargain, especially when you can just choose another school that costs under 99k.

Yes

so far it's only been Merit based since I haven't applied for the fin aid yet but

ucsf 7500
ucla 15000
uop 30000

so it depends the school. And even tho uop gave me the most it would still end up being the most expensive.
Anyways I think all schools have them but differ in the amount they give.

Tufts' Merit Scholarship is $6000 - you get it automatically if are accepted and have a 21 AA on the DAT, and 3.5 overall GPA. The good thing about it is that if you don't get it coming into school, you can earn it by being in the Top 20 of the class.

Is this scholarship per year and how is the top 20 assessed (like at the end of each school year)?

It's per year. I'm not sure if it's top 20 students or top 20%, but it's assessed at the end of each school year.

Don't worry about it. It's just added motivation to do well in didactic courses. $6K isn't much when you realize you have $350K in loans lol

U Penn gives you ~112k scholarship over 4 years (Dean's scholarship, half tuition every year) if you maintain B or above in D school.

hey guys.. i just got my letter from Tufts and on the second paragraph of my letter.. it said that they offer me the merit scholarship.............. i was wondering how did i get tht?!......... do everyone get that?.. I 'm so shocked that i got one...

Also, rumor has it that for URMs with good grades, they get a Merit Scholarship worth 15% of the tuition cost (~$10,000) and they get it for all four years. This has not been confirmed, however.

Hey somethinpositiv, do many students get the federal Perkin Loans and Tufts Loan?

UCSF also offers a 12,500/per year all four years dollar scholarship

Nice. Did you receive this scholarship? If so, any ideas on the criteria?

From the UCSF website:

Q. What kinds of scholarships are available to dental students?
A. A variety of awards are made each year from UCSF School of Dentistry scholarship funds. Criteria for these awards and scholarships vary widely, and new scholarships are established each year. All admitted and enrolled dental students are considered for scholarships by the school's Scholarship Committee. Applicants with a GPA of B, B+ and above will be considered for the UC Regents Scholarship. This is a scholarship based solely upon academic achievement, and no additional application is necessary.

As Oxford said, they have different kinds of scholarships as well as a couple new ones every year. I believe this is a new one for this year, at least that is what Dean Featherstone told me, yes I did receive it 👍!

i just got a 20k scholarship for first year from temple today

Unfortunately, the criteria is race. My hispanic classmates got them, while I have to pay full tuition. My numbers are much, much higher than theirs too.

Does anyone know if Western offers any scholarships or not? If they do, what are the criteria for them? When do they notify you, if you are selected for one? Thanks.

Temple offers an achievement scholarship of 10k for your first year if you have at least a 3.5 sci gpa entering.
