How much faith should we put into these "self-reported plans of d-school graduates?" I can't trust some of these numbers. I mean I can be ranked #400 but still report I want to become an oral surgeon. Sometimes people can't get what they want. For example, can a school really generate 50 specialists? There aren't too many openings for specialties. In fact, some specialties are taken by general dentists who have been in private practice for a few years. I have no number 1 choice. I am totally undecided now. I wish we had dental school rankings.

well, if no dental school can generate 50 specialists, then it won't matter...cuz no matter what school you go to, it still won't generate 50 specialists...if you want to specialise, i'd assume you would choose the school that generates the most number of specialists? but even that's sketchy. all the stats i've seen just show how many students got into each specialty. it doesn't show us how many people applied to that specialty (and how many were accepted/rejected as a result)...doesn't show how many people got to do their first choice of specialty..etc..

essentially, i feel that these stats are worthless cuz it doesn't give us the full picture...

i suspect, though, that the 3 ivies probably generate the most specialists...just because their reputations are so grand that everyone will be fighting for them just based on their renown names..
