I could definitely use some braces.
Which schools offer reduced/free dental care to students?

All of them offer some form of discounts to their students. Having said that, I'd focus more on getting accepted at this point rather than the freebies you'll get once you're in.

Or we could just answer his question...

Temple: Pretty much everything is free except for the price of metal - for a crown or an inlay/onlay.

Ortho: $189 for U and L arch invisalign (TOTAL), 1200-1500 for real braces I think.

Everything is free at BU; ortho, perio, endo, restorative, crown n' bridge (except lab fee). These treatments are not limited to pre-doc clinic, but post-docs too. Endo, ortho, and aegd residents also provide these services for free if you are a student.

About 1/4 to 1/3 of my class (including myself) who needed braces or Invisalign got it for free.

Wow, that's really nice. I'm going to be having all four of my 3rd molars pulled when I start this year at Pitt, and they were telling me that although it's cheaper, its definitely not free.

anyone know how much or what nyu covers?

hahaha 👍

it seems as though this the case at most schools. i guess that begs the question, are there any cheapy penny pincher schools out there? haha

At Nova you pay the same price as anyone else that comes through the door. The only "free" care you get is when you practice prophys on each other in second year.

So if you are coming to Nova and have put off dental care to get "free" care at school, you will be sorely disappointed!!!

Does this mean 1/4 to 1/3 of your class comes from a disadvantaged backgrounds?

what is considered a disadvantaged background these days? dental education as know it is getting very very expensive, so I guess everyone is disadvantaged.

anyways, 1/4 to 1/3 of my class were candidates for ortho treatment, and they go it for free! IF the entire class needed ortho tx, they would get it for free too.

I know someone from my class who needed multiple work from various departments; endo, ortho, pros, etc. If this person had the work done outside the school, it would be easily $20-25k, but he ended up paying about $500.

What about UCLA/UCSF??? anyone from either of those??

Judging by the time I've recently spent on the pre-dent forum, "disadvantaged" apparently includes anyone whose parents do not finance their every momentary whim, and any dentist who earns less than eleventy bazillion dollars a year and/or elects to work more than two days a week.

I guess I'm just surprised that 1/4 to 1/3 of your class had bad teeth.

You're really going to try to say on a Dental forum that just because a patient could benefit from ortho treament they have "bad teeth"? You might want to show up for class more often.:meanie:

I thought it was me, but you do have a weak and odd sense of humor. You implied in your earlier post that having "bad teeth" = "disadvantaged people".

Ask any orthodontist what an ideal teeth should look like. He/she would almost always recommend some level of ortho tx to most people. So the suggestion is usually "should", not "must" - unless its apparent.

If ortho was available to you at no cost (even if you think you don't need it) - a consult could say otherwise, and you would end up taking the offer (free invisalign or braces).

Don't be mad at me. Be mad at your parents who couldn't get you braces when you were little.

I was wondering what discounts/freebies Columbia offers. Anyone?
I can't find a site that has the info.

Btw, my sister got 2 of her wisdom teeth removed for free at Tufts. Pretty cool 😎

At Penn, all "Phase I" tx is free, like prophies, sealants, fillings, even endo i believe. So i had all my amalgam filling replaced and got sealants for free. I had my 3rd molars and 1st Premolars extracted for free too. But from rumors going around, OS is discounting this discount for students 😡 any work that is not defined as phase I by the school is discounted at 25%, i.e. tx that requires lab work. So I'm also in ortho tx, and I got 25% off the $2650 comprehensive fee. But I of course wanted porcl brackets and had to pay an add'l $276, which included the discount. So i guess here, where in the middle of the road, better than somes schools, worse than some others.

At Creighton, students will get pretty much everything (including standard braces) for free. Invisalign will cost you only the lab fee that Invisialign themselves require (about $1500).

Mostly I see cleanings, fillings, a crown every now and then, rarely an endo, and the usual handful of simple ortho cases. You're not going to get an instructor to sign off on a treatment plan for you buddy to have veneers from 6-11 just because he/she wants to look better. If it's legit though, you're contributing to another student's education!
