I am thinking about signing up for Midwestern's Dental Simulation Course but was wondering if dental school admission committees look favorably upon applicants who complete such a course (in addition to shadowing local dentists) or is the course more for the benefit of the student to experience some of what will be done in dental school?

The course would cost me a good bit (since I would have to fly in, get a hotel, rental car, etc) and thus I want to make sure it will be worthwhile not only to me but also that it could possibly help my chances in getting into dental school.

I appreciate your input!

A lot of people I know that have done one and applied said it was a good benefit, it can't hurt and it gives you firsthand experience to talk about to dental schools. I've never personally done one but will actually be attending the 2nd session at Midwestern's this year.

However, cost is a big deal and most dental schools offer simulation courses at their school. I'm surprised you haven't been able to find one closer to where you are. I would recommend you call up your local dental schools and ask if they provide a pre-dental simulation course.

I will be attending the first session. I am not really sure what to expect either, but if anything i hope it will be a good networking opportunity, as well as learning. But i have the same question as the OP... any direct benefits on application?!

I've checked around but can't seem to find anything down in the south. If anyone comes across anything let me know!

UNC has a program but it is for financially/socially/educationally disadvantaged and is an 8 or 9 week program. I'm looking for something over the weekend or 2 days or so.
