Dentist assitance...advantage?

I went shadowing for the second time and i saw this new dentist assitance.
I thought she was about 25 years old or something because of her body..-_-;
I later found out that she is only 18, graduated high school(yeah, girls get matured faster than 1980s).
She told me that there was a dental class in her high school.
She does so many stuffs just like dentist(I know dentist knows more stuffs).
I was so jealous of her during the entire time because she is younger and knows so many things that I don't know about. She actually has this experience of helping patients, which I don't.

Even though I am older than her and started shadowing, She actually has this experience. I feel like I am way behind.

I want to know if shadowing is as good as working as dental assitance. or does she have much much much ahead of me and has adventage of being accepted?

The application process by and large is a numbers game, you either have them or you dont. The volunteering, clubs, and research are all secondary. Yes, the admissions might like to see the dental assisting, but they are not going to take a dental assistant over someone with a better overall application or "stuffs" as you put it.

it's ASSISTANT!! If you did any research about the dental field, you would know this.

Dental assistants probably have a leg-up, intially at least, when it comes to dental jargon and especially materials and instruments, but it seems to me that a regular shmoe can catch up pretty quickly.

That is, the assistants in my class are no better or no worse clinicians than the average student, because of their prior assistant experience.

Yeah, I was the same way as the girl you are talking about. I actually started assisting at 17, the week after graduating high school. I continued to do that for 3 years until I had to move out of town. I don't really know if it'll help me at all, I'm sure needing it to with my grades. We'll see when I apply.
