Thanks.

Your first year is pretty cheap. I remember it was around $400 back in 2000. The it gradually increase until it stabilize to $1400/year.

Thanks for your answer, not sure I understand why is it cheaper the first year since you don't have a lot of experience.

you dont really do much your first year either

If you treat 1000 patients in your first year, your exposure to patients is 50X less than someone who has seen 50,000 over ten years; thus your risk is lower. As you get more comfortable with common procedures, you move on to surgical extraction, nitrous oxide, dental spa, etc. so you also increase your risk.

Dental malpractice insurance is way, way less expensive than medical malpractice insurance.

As Daurang has eluded to, with the coverage that many dentists choose, 1,000,000/3,000,000 and a few years experience under your belt, your premiums tend to end up in the 1,200 to 1,500 a year range. Slightly more if your a specialist(especially oral surgeons with their sedation usage). A couple of the larger dental malpractice insuarnce companies are The Medical Protective Company (a subsidiary of GE financial) and Fortress Insurance Company.
