Hello all - I was hoping to get some information about which omfs programs across the country focus more heavily on dentoalveolar/private practice scope work. I have externed at a program which focused on cancer and trauma, and although the procedures were absolutely incredible, the program was not the best fit for my own aspirations.

I understand that programs must cover many aspects cancer/trauma/etc to be accredited, but I would like to know specifically of programs that focus on dentoalveolar (3rds, implants, prepros, sedations, etc)

Thanks for the help

wuss!! j/k. Montefiore is one I have heard good things about. I wouldn't bother with the extra 2 yrs for a 6 yr program if I was dead set on traditional private practice/dentoalveolar. Best of luck!!

Many people, myself included, would call these procedures rather than surgery. Do you not like going to the OR? Yes, I know this is what makes the big $$$, but come on! OMS is more than dentoalveolar. Many people, myself included, feel neglecting the OR is not the best thing for the profession of OMS. It is OMS (oral and maxillofacial surgery), not DAS (dentoalveolar surgery).

I think the residents and attendings at Montefiore would laugh if you called it a dentoalveolar program. They're in the OR constantly.

as far as i have been told, montefiore is an awesome program all around. i have heard their dentoalveolar experience is excellent as well. that is why i brought them up. i agree that the total scope is important for the profession.
