ARNG heading to CRC this week...

the FAQs on the website are a bit confusing about bringing/receiving new gear. One place says the deployer can refuse the gear if they already have it, but in Another location, it says you have to have an ETP to not receive CIF/RFI

1) all of my Field gear and cold weather gear (headed to cold climate) is ACU pattern, should I pack it down there or hope they give me new stuff

2) It states, “Military personnel are authorized four bags at 70lbs each, for the flight. While here, they will typically draw two bags worth of equipment.“ If I’m taking all my own gear, should I still expect to receive 2 additional duffel bags of equipment.

I would like to avoid packing all this crap down there if I‘m going to be issued all the same stuff regardless

thanks

Ask for a packing list. Pack what they tell you to take and don't sweat the rest.

If you've got your own neat stuff from REI or tacticaldoctor.com or wherever, be aware that the flight to wherever is going to limit your luggage and you're going to be told to take 100% of your issued gear.

Typical baggage allowance for deploying might be CIF gear stuffed into the CIF pack, another 70ish pound bag (maybe two), and a carry-on. My last deployment I got my CIF pack full to the gills with CIF crap, one sea bag, a laptop bag, and a small backpack.

Never in my life have I ever seen, nor heard of, a person taking SIX 70-pound bags on a deployment. It's ... a ridiculous figure. There just ain't no way any branch of service is going to deploy anybody anywhere with 400+ pounds of personal luggage. Issued gear doesn't include an android, bellhop, and a mog.

Consider mailing some of your stuff (not CIF gear) to yourself when you get your FPO address.

I took it to mean “we are going to give you 2 bags of stuff, so don’t bring more than two”

my question revolves around the ruck sack, assault pack, Kevlar, LBV, etc.

a recently deployed doc told me “they literally give you everything, just pack your civies” but wanted to see everyone else’s experience going through CRC.

They seem to be more worried about me showing up with my TSIRT online modules done than anything else I will say

Went through CRC outbound Oct 18 and inbound Feb 19.
Have your online stuff done, no doubt.

I brought one duffle with uniforms and civilian clothes, toiletries, etc and my personal ruck with laptop, loupes, ipad, glasses, paperwork. That ruck never left my side.

Get everything at CRC you are supposed to get.
There is no way to get anything after you leave.; they will lie and say you can get anything missing in Kuwait. While that may be technically possible, practically there was absolutely no way to get to Camp Buehring to get anything there. I watched an 06 spin his wheels for a week trying, unsuccessfully. A friend was told they didnt have any holsters left and to get it a Buehring. He told them 'I know that's a lie, there is no way to get it at Buehring. The clerk looked at him, silently reached under the counter instead of the empty holster bin, and handied him a brand new holster system.

Take your old stuff, it may be better than what they issue, it may be worse. Ship stuff you dont need home from CRC. There is a post office right there.

I was jealous of the guys with Bose Quiet Comfort headphones. Bought some later, wished I had ponied up the cash for the trip over.

Ship over extra uniforms, etc. No sense carrying that stuff yourself that you can ship. That said, flash to bang was three weeks at the time for Iraq.

Set up VPN service before you go. TMobile was actually a pretty decent cell phone plan, for me.

Make sure you have 120/220 compatible stuff, esp if shipping something over from Amazon. Get at least one adapter plug first chance you get. When I got in Iraq, the little PX was out for weeks.

Best advice is to talk to the guy you are replacing. CRC stuff changes, and I am almost 2 years removed, so who knows now.
