Deposit question

So I was accepted at Case, but I am waiting to find out from Buffalo, and I am hoping for an interview at Stony Brook...but I need to send in the deposit to Case by Jan. 16. If I send in that $1000, but then get an offer to Stony Brook (please please please) in like Feb. or March, I can tell Case that I am giving up my spot, but I lose that $1000. Is that right?
