can someone please give me some advice? i have a 3.9ish from a university. i took the mcat in april, and got in the high 20s. i decided to take the mcat again in august, and applied to a bunch of schools. when i got my august mcat score, not only was my score lower than a 30 (but still in high 20s), it was a point lower than my original score from april. I know a point isn't a big deal, but i got a 6 on verbal this time around, which was lower than the first time (and first time was already bad, but this time it was worse). 🙁

I can't believe i spent my whole summer studying, so in the end my application could come out worse.

what do you think i should do? take the mcat a third time? withdraw my application when i've already spent 3k? 😕 :scared:

thanks in advance

nope don't retake the MCAT (not yet at least!) and don't withdraw your app, especially with all the money already spent! if you've got other stuff going for you, you'll probably be fine! if you have a copy of the MSAR, you can see the range of scores on individual sections of accepted applicants at each school.

check out my profile...i've been very pleasantly surprised with this app cycle! 🙂

Hang in there bro. You need to look at the rest of your app as well. High 20's is not all that bad (I have that, so, of course. lol). Your GPA is strong, so what about the other stuff. EC's, anything they value?

my ECs are decent(covers a whole range of things), but i have no publications. i am also not a URM. my rec letters are alright too (i guess?). 🙁

Do not worry...you're score is fine. I am about to graduate from medical school, and I would have been very proud to have your score. DON"T withdraw. You already spent the money. I tried to withdraw because the same thing happened to me(AMCAS wouldn't let me), and boy am I glad I didn't. 🙂

I don't have any publications, I'm not a URM, I have a 3.9, MCAT high 20s, decent EC's, I think good LORs so basically Im in the same boat you're in. and I would say, NO!! Do not withdraw!! I've already gotten 4 interviews!! You are fine, don't withdraw, you've got nothing to lose at this point, you've already spent the money. You'd hate to go thru this process again next year if you get in this year!! Yes, I've gotten rejections, but I've gotten interviews too!!! You'll be fine! trust me, don't withdraw yet. again you've got nothing to lose since you've already spent the money.

but... i got a 6 in verbal. i want to get into an MD program. i dont know if that is possible.

Yes, you can. You can get in this year. You may not be getting into Harvard but you have a chance.

You also need to immediately protect yourself. Figure out what Master's programs the school (that you want to go to medical school at) has. Apply to them now. I know you are sick of applying, but this is very helplful. I did it and I got in. JUST IN CASE you don't get in, you will have a Masters program to begin, which is much better for you, than just retaking the MCAT. I did it, and then I got into the same school for medical school.

Trust me, I did fine in medical school. I hung with the rest of 'em. The test doesn't show how you will do in medical school even though some people say it does. At least it didn't in my case. :luck:

100-200 applicants last year (out of 35,000) were accepted with a 6 or less in VR. (MSAR)

i got the same thing in verbal too 🙁 but i got a 25 (6VR, 8PS, 11BS). i know how discouraging it can be especially when youve studied all summer and ur practice scores were definitely higher than the real thing. BUT, i would definitely still apply!!!! im still applyin with mine because i have already spent sooooo much money on this process as well. i'm sure you'll get in somewhere! good luck!! :luck:

dont worry man. i took the mcat 3 times, and got everything from a 6 to a 9 on verbal.

some schools (i.e. tufts, albany) take highest scores from multiple settings and look at a combined mcat. so dont' worry. i also went down one point on my verbal this past august mcat 2005. i also went down one point on my bio, but my physics went up 2 points... eventually getting the same score overall... im also in the high 20s..

so dont worry. i think about 4000 - 5000 actually get in with a 3.5 and a high 20s mcat.
