I just took the AAMC practice test 3 exam and it was the first time taking it..... I just got a 6/45 on my test.....I know it's embarassing... I took all my pre-req besides ochem2... i got 3 on physical science,1 on verbal, and 2 on biological science... I thought you get 1 point for each section for writing your name?? so that means I only got 3 extra points???? I am really depressed... I don't know what to do.. I have a MCAT test on january.. Is the AAMC practice test harder than the real test?

no it is harder. did you do any kind of content review? one of the problems is honing in on what you need an what you don't. how long ago did you take the prereqs? you should have been able to guess better than that. there has to be something else wrong.

I took em past 2-3years... I didn't do any review... I just took the test and I wanted to see where I stand.. I feel like a loser...

By no means should you feel like a loser. Did you rush through it?

I think you should stop with the full lengths and really hone in on the content review, but most importantly start doing some practice passages.

I would highly recommend the Berkeley Review, their entire set is $295 I think? Or if you can't get them, I would look into Kaplan or The Princeton Review.

Maybe run a search on these forums for a study schedule, try SN2ed's schedule. Also, pick up the examkrackers 1001 verbal passages.

I hate to say this to you, but if you're getting that score now, and you want to write in January, I would hold off until spring. Good luck!

You need to do some content review and passages first. It sounds like you hadn't done any prep first, which would naturally lead to a very poor MCAT score. Do some content review first. Someone suggested TBR, which would be a great choice; however, they will take some time to get you your books, so order ASAP. In addition, while you are waiting, I would suggest going to www.wikipremed.com and watching the videos there on any topics you don't know well. Once you get the TBR materials, run through them, then do a few more full-length tests. SN2ed has an excellent schedule posted that you could try. However, like the above poster, I would strongly suggest waiting until April or May to take the MCAT. At least you only lose $55 at this pt on a date change. The reality is that you are unlikely to pull your MCAT up sufficiently within less than a month's time. You need a few months at minimum (this is true of anyone). Best of luck!

a 6/45 is a pretty catastrophic score indicating a serious deficiency in reading comprehension as well as the basic sciences. you have a very long way to go. taking the mcat in january, or even march/april is more or less out of the question for you. sorry if this sounds harsh but it is what it is.

have you actually taken the mcat?

thank you for all the advice... I am not ganna take any AAMC practice test anymore... I am going to do a review with examkracker and I will do review online www.wikipremed.com. It is really shocking because my GPA is 3.166.

Definitely go more in-depth than EK.
And while wikipremed is a decent place to start, you're pretty far from the finish line; I am almost certain wikipremed + EK will not be sufficient for you at this point in time.

As for the GPA vs. MCAT, while the MCAT is extremely low, your GPA is not strong either. You need to bring that GPA up as well if you want to be competitive for medical school. Your MCAT, however, should come first at this pt.

I, also, would agree w/ bleargh here; I don't see you succeeding if you take the MCAT in the next few months. After reading your posts here, your English seems weak and you have a very long way to go on your sciences. Perhaps, you should consider retaking the basic sciences (to bring your GPA up for DO and review for the MCAT). I am not so sure that simple prep courses will get you where you need to be at this pt. Admittedly, I have not been where you are and so cannot say how much improvement you should expect or how long it might take. This simply varies by person.

thx for all the advice.... I just cant believe I got 1 on verbal... this has to be the lowest test score i've seen on planet!

hi there i don't want to start a controversy here but I am not sure about the legitimacy of this post. Common medorent I mean, if you had randomly guessed all the way you should have gotten a better score, seriously.

I just looked at the AAMC 3 scoring chart and it is possible. a 0-10 is still a one so even guessing and getting 25% right you can get a 1. However the chances of scoring so low on all 3 sections is very unlikely. That would be 13-15 right in physical sciences, 0-10 right on verbal, and 14-15 right on Bio. My questions is did you just pick one Letter and stick with it? That seems the only way to yield these results. If you really tried your hardest then you have a LONG, LONG way to go. This test shows you lack basic knowledge and reading comprehension. I wish you the best but you better spend countless hours studying the material and increasing your reading capacity.

My grades:
chemI B
chem II B
Bio I B
bio II C
OchemI C
Physics I B
Physics II A
I am taking ochemII in spring

I still couldn't pass 6. What's going on?

Okay, what I would like to know is how you felt while taking this exam? When you go back and look at the questions, when was your perception of the difficulty of a question accurate vs. inaccurate? What was your general strategy? Without answering these questions, it is going to make it a little harder for us to help you.

WHile I was taking the exam, I felt lost and I just couldn't grasp the concept of the question. The passage just made me even more confused and I just guessing most of the questions.

Is English your first language?

Whatever the case is, for the love of whatever you worship, postpone your test date until late next year. You need to sit down and do content review for several months. Intersperse your time studying with passages (look at the resources mentioned above). DO NOT look at any practice tests until about 4-6 weeks before your exam.

I feel like a formal class will also help you a lot.

Good luck

I'm going to go with troll. Blindly guessing will give you 25% answers.

Yea this is the scariest part because 1. Verbal supposedly requires no prior knowledge and 2. It's the hardest section to improve your score.

people listen!!! it's not a troll! I am dead serious. yes, english is my second language but I've lived in the States for 14years!! Spanish is my 3rd language 🙂

I honestly think there was some kind of error when you took the test and as a result, a bunch of your answers just didn't register at all. It's either that or you're trolling for some secret tricks to studying.
