To anyone out there who can give me some advice,
Many derm programs desire students to do research before they apply to their programs. However, my question for you is: does the research have to be dermatology-related? I have done a couple of years of research in virology in San Diego and am curious if that is enough for the application process. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!

No one can tell you what "enough" is.Doing research usually has two purposes, one is to show highly academic programs that you have an academic bent, are capable of pursuing a research project, presenting and hopefully publishing it.If your virology research is significant, and the rest of your application is strong then it may be "enough." The other reason to do reseach is to make contacts and get known by derm faculty, something your virology work may not help you with.
