Hello,
Class of 2019 here so the derm part of my match would be in 2020. I was wondering if anybody knows how AOA derm residencies will be accepting students in the future. I know that you first must do a TRI year and then apply the following year for DOs but with the merger how would that work? Would MD students do a TRI year or could they get away with doing a transitional year and then applying?

I think that you'll have better luck picking the outcome of the 2020 presidential election!

This year, the DO derm residencies are offered the options to accept from interns and/or from 4th year medical students. Once the merger is complete, the internship option will probably phase out.

They will never phase out the option of grabbing an intern; any residency in the country can do that now, and has been able to as far back as I'm aware. This is how people who do prelim-year only grab matches in the following years match.

They will probably phase out any requirement that you complete an intern year before applying for Derm and make it a situation like the ACGME derm is now, where you match both an intern year and a derm residency at the same time.
