Hey guys. I have my interview coming up and, looking at the interview feedback, one of the questions that was asked was:

Describe a time you were creative in problem solving.

I'm having the hardest time thinking of something. I'm trying to draw back from all my experiences but can't seem to think of anything. Can you guys share some of your experiences? Thanks!

Your right this is a tough question....

But to me, it sounds like your trying to steal someone else's experience and use it as your own??
I dunnnnno

" i was creative in problem solving when i prepared for my interview, during which i came up with the answer to this question."

I started thinking about this question after I saw it. First I was thinking of ideas involving school, work and volunteer experiences. I thought those were kinda boring and didnt say much, then I started thinking of ideas involving camping, hiking, boating ect... I thought by using one of the latter ideas it can give a little more insight to who you are/what you like to do along with your problem solving abilities. EX: Tell a story about when you were in a desert 200 race with your motorcycle and your rear wheel fell off/came loose and you had to use limited tools and resources so you could complete the race(Of course with a little more detail). Or when you were out fishing in a row boat 2 miles from shore and you used your gum to stop the leak.

Those were just some goofy examples but I thought it might help to get some of your own ideas flowing.

although i dont have any more interviews to prepare for, i appreciate your help for those who needed this kind of help from SDN.
i think the way you were thinking about that answer is really what adcom would like to hear much better than school project / etc.

"I was preparing for my interviews by going thru questions I didn't know the answers to. Then I decided to use the power of the internet by spamming that question on SDN. That allowed me to borrow someone else's answer and pass it as my own. That's why I'm valuable to your school. I will go to any length to get what needs to be done done. "

Ever had a MacGyver moment? MacGyver is the king of creative problem solving!

it shouldn't be hard to think of a time you were creative. It doesn't need to be the perfect answer either. I didn't expect a question like that going into my interview and probably gave an answer no one would ever use...I talked about a time i was creative when DJing for a house party. I don't think any of us know what they are looking for when they ask these questions. The last thing I would do though is to take someone else's idea and formulate it as your own. You may not get caught, but it does reflect your integrity on yourself....also, if it's your own actual experience you could elaborate a whole lot more if they were to inquire instead of creating the scenario as you go. best of luck. i'm sure you'll think of something 🙂

The answer is unique for everyone. Personally, being an environmentalist, I would answer: I built and engine that runs on processed soy byproducts and replaced my car engine with it. It's a win-win situation. The biofuel costs 1.70 a gallon to make and the greenhouse emissions are negligible.
