I'm on a student budget. Looking for something that I can comfortably sit in for 6-8 hours a day for the next two years. Any suggestions?

Just check out Amazon - plenty of options in the $80-$120 range that are perfectly good.

My thought on desk chairs is they're more or less equally bad until you get to the top tier ergonomic chairs. Definitely look around for cheaper options (it's been a few years since I've shopped), but I wouldn't eliminate investing in a Herman Miller just because of the price. You pay a little premium because of the name, but their chairs are truly phenomenal and will easily last your entire medical career.

I own a herman miller embody chair.
Can confirm it's a nice chair, though a tad bit too hard for my liking.
In my opinion, not really worth the price. Helps with seating posture though.

My experience is similar, not the most "comfortable" chair I've sat on by any means, but it has done wonders for my posture and I can easily sit for 5+ hours without any discomfort. That's really what they're designed for, not meant to be a relaxing chair to watch TV in, but excellent for long work-related sitting marathons.

Don't be a noob, use a standing desk. Everyone knows only those who use a standing desk during preclinical years are fit to become surgeons.

For me a good bookstand was more important than a nice chair. On amazon, look at the Wiztem Jasmine bookstand by a company called BestBookStand. It is strong enough to hold Harrisons. I used it all throughout med school, and residency, and recently studying for boards. It was one of the best purchases I've ever made.

No real books anymore! All I need is something to hold my iPad.
