Thanks! Someday when I'll be a doctor I'll be looking back at these two years of my life thinking what was that all about (atleast that's what i say to myself!)...but will it really happen?

why not? there's nothing wrong to hope ! Bunch of people got accepted off the DMU waitlist in the last 2 days but not all of them will take it. So, keep your fingers cross!

so i called DMU yesterday to ask about my status. The lady asked my last name and then she asked my first name and then she asked my middle name and then she asked my last 4 digits of SSN.
She said that i should expect my rank to come before June 1st.
and then she said that they have an applicant with a similar name....now i am starting to freak out b/c what if my stuff got mixed up with hers? she needed my last 4 digits of SSN...our whole name must have been the same or similar that she couldn't differentiate even after my middle name.

That might just be for security purposes. They wouldn't want to give your status to other people. Just a thought. Goodluck.

didn't think about it that way...but this is the first time any med school asked me my last four digits of SSN but most of the other schools ask me for my application number so I guess it would be the same thing.

I declined my acceptance to DMU, so one of you will get the spot.
Guju, don't worry. I think you will get in. Hang in there!

I just got my alternate list ranking, top quartile! They said there are 119 people on the waitlist this year, so I guess that means there are about 30 people per quartile. I know every year is different, but does anyone know how many people are usually pulled off the list? And.. I guess they dont rank within each quartile? Anyone else get their ranking yet?

Hang in there guys!! You are both soooo close. I wish the best of luck to each of you. Keep watching the DMU '11 thread, other students keep posting their movement off the alternate list.

👍 Good luck!!

I will be withdrawing my acceptance from DMU this week since I have decided to attend KCUMB. Hopefully one of you on the waitlist will be pulled off sometime this week. Good luck. 👍

Man.. I sooo hope I get in! 🙂 Good luck everyone! I wonder what happened with Guju? The first of June is this Friday, so everyone should have their rankings by then! Although I do wish I knew whether I was #1 or #30 on the waitlist..

I officially withdrew my acceptance yesterday. Hopefully that will open a spot for someone on the waitlist.

Woohoo! Thanks for letting us know, hopefully there are more like you who are dropping!:luck:

I just withdrew my acceptance from DMU as well. Good to luck to all of u on the waitlist!🙂

Sadly, I just withdrew my acceptance from DMU, too.
Absolutely my favorite school, and I would have loved it there.
But with recent events, it just made more sense to go another route.
Good luck to everyone still waiting. I know you'll LOVE it at DMU!! :luck:

Most recent posts on this thread have been withdraws and I feared the worst when I saw that you had posted. 🙁

Aww man... it was TOUGH to give up on what I consider to be the best school I got into, plus the best almost classmates!! 🙁
But I can only go to 1 school, so... I went for closer to home & less cost.
Plus, like I said, the 'other' school was very supportive of me when my mom landed up in the ICU. It was enough to tip the scales.
I'm going to keep up with my DMU counterparts, though - you guys are way too cool to lose touch with! 😀

Bump! Anyone heard anything? This waiting is driving me nuts!

Did anyone ever hear from Guju if he heard his position on the rank list? Quartiles even? Seems like he just dropped off SDN....

Does anyone know if there are any type of research programs that go on at DMU (ie. during the summer between M1 and M2) that students are allowed to participate in (ie. get published)? If there is such a program how many people typically participate? If there is no research that many students can participate in do they go elsewhere? I am just trying to formulate opinions of this school for application purposes.

Pansit,

There is a summer research fellowship program at the school which is competitive & you get a stipend which is deducted from your tuition the next fall. For those who are not selected for those positions, faculty members are happy to take on students for an hourly wage. I can't tell you what it is, but I don't think it's too bad (although it's certaintly not $10/hr).

I am heavily involved in research at DMU both at & outside of the institution. There are plenty of opportunities if you look for them. As far as publications go; also plenty of opportunities if you are proactive. I should have about 3-5 publications & another 3-5 poster presentations at national conferences by the time I graduate ('09).

I would be happy to answer any more questions over PM after Friday when my USMLE is over. I highly suggest applying to the school though. Most people fall in love w/ it once they come here & check it out.

I am a graduated 4th year from DMU and loved it. I also did research at dmu from the summer before I started to the summer before 3rd year. I also received the Iowa Osteopathic research Grant which is a nice deduction off of tuition. I will gladly answer any questions about that as well.

so basically be on the top end of the class and you will have a greater likelihood of obtaining a research position, and probably a greater likelihood of doing well on boards and residency match for that matter...so I am starting to learn how medical school works:laugh:...is there anything one can do before or even during school (except doing well on grades) that would help their chance of obtaining a research spot (especially for me bc I don't any experience from undergrad, which i regret)?

I wouldn't worry about it if you don't make it up there as high b/c (IMO) the stipend positions are going to be good for making some money & a poster presentation, but that might be all. They are usually ongoing faculty projects & thus suitable for publication or a manuscript.

ALL of my research came from showing interest to people whom I knew were going to be in need of a research assistant & I kept getting offered more & more projects. I'm also certaintly not top 1/4 of the class either so it's all about how much you can fit on your plate while still studying. BTW, I wouldn't recommend trying to start research until at least the later half of 2nd semester.
