I just joined studentdoc after refusing to become one of the many "pre-meds: but alas I am looking for anyone who may have past experiences that may help in answering my question.

During my MCAT (july 2nd) I used my phone for 20 seconds (not like the times really matters but anway) during the break in front of my locker. The proctor was standing about 7 feet away and heard what was said and told me to hang up. I did. THen she took my phone, wrote down all this info and said she was making out a report and that I was going to be investigated. Then she said that my score may be invalidated. I've aldready talked to MCAT ppl and have submitted my "statement." Now they say that they are going to investigate it. Taks 4-6 weeks.

Basically I'm looking for anyone that has had anything similar happen to them or has heard of anything similar happening and what the outcome was. I know that there was someone on here that used his notes during a break but I am not sure of the outcome of that whole situation.

Anything would help as I sit here growing grey hairs by the second.
Thanks.

During my exam my proctor somehow saw I had a dollar bill in my pocket and told me to take it out. She said if I had brought it in my score would have been invalidated (WTF...)

Anyways to answer you- it is possible, but sounds like they're still deciding on it. Hopefully they cut you some slack; those prometric people are nazi's lol

why the HELL were you on your phone??? I hope they don't invalidate your score, but unless there was some emergency, I don't understand why you would even think of that as a remotely okay thing to do.

I don't understand why it matters what you did during the break? The set-up at my testing center had the bathroom on the other end of the floor and there were tons of people coming and going for some class they were taking. Not sure how speaking on the phone is really any different from people talking in person.

Well, doesn't the MCAT essentials .pdf say cell phones are not permitted? And that's an AAMC rule? Hopefully, nothing comes out of it but you may have dug yourself a gigantic hole OP.

I think they instill such harsh rules cause its possible to release info on the test. Say you are on the east coast, and you text a message to someone on the west coast, saying "PHYSICS HAS A PASSAGE ABOUT BLAH BLAH BLAH" and that person is taking his mcat in a few hours (east coast is a different time zone, so it's possible to give away certain things).

Same reason they don't allow your own pencils, since some may double as cameras.

This makes sense. OP, I've got to ask, WTF were you doing on your phone?

On another note, what kind of pencils do they give you? Are they full length number 2's or are they the little half pencils with no erasers? I know it sounds weird, but I'm preferential to my writing instruments.

The MCAT Essentials does state you cannot use a phone.

MCAT Essentials Page 13:

To protect the security of the exam questions, examinees may not study or use cell phones during breaks.

If a violation is substantiated, MCAT exam officials will notify the examinee and will send a report documenting the incident, with attachments provided by the individual, to legitimately interested parties (such as medical schools). In addition, the AAMC may also investigate the validity of the individual's test scores, cancel scores when there is reason to believe that they are invalid, and prosecute anyone whose behavior unlawfully undermines the security of the MCAT exam or the integrity of the process.

Hi

no worries, this happen to me last year, I talked to my dad on phone in front of the staff, she is so... that she stayed until I finish my conversation and told me she will write the report, they did not do anything, I got my highest score ever, dont worry, I did not even submit anything to MCAt, I did not even call them , just relax, I even talk in another language so she told me she does not know if I talked about questions or not, lol just relax an enjoy ur summer

Someone was studying during a break and I think they got a report filed and also got investigated. I didn't know the details, but hopefully you don't get your score canceled...

oh I also got so angry that throw out my cell phone kind of towards the other staff, lol I need anger management😡

🙄

you're told to have nothing in your pockets and to empty everything into the provided locker

you're given a laminated sheet to read over saying that cell phone use and studying during breaks are prohibited, then asked to sign a paper acknowledging you read that material before you are even allowed to go in the testing room

for real, I got a short fuse myself, but you can't lose your cool like that while taking a test. Are you going to throw your pager at a nurse?
