On 48.. does any one have a easier way to do this problem.. this is a really long way and i don't know how much of it i can remember during the exam.. also
# 51. why are we choosing the smallest.. WHY? I mean in quick glance one would go by Ar.

48 really isnt that long if you understand what you're doing and get the pattern. I just did this problem in less then a minute.

51. It's pretty obvious Na+ has the greatest ionization energy. Na+ and Ar have the same number of valence/electrons BUT Na+ has one extra proton. Greater effective nuclear charge, so holds the electrons tighter then Ar which means greater ionization energy.
