detail of glycolysis/cellular respiration?

I just wondering if anyone has an idea of how detailed we have to know glycolysis and cellular respiration. Do we need to memorize all of the glycolysis intermediates, for example?

Please let me know what your impressions were of the scope of questions on this topic on the real DAT! Thank you 🙂

You don't need to know any of the enzymes/intermediates. You do need to know the general idea behind the process.
Definitely know the # of ATPs produced during the process, and topics like anaerobic respiration vs. aerobic.

Hey Predental1187 was only knowing the gist of cellular resperation sufficient enough for your DAT? Im in the same boat you were in before, im not sure how much of the process i really should memorize.

You need to understand that one glucose produces 2 moles of pyruvate. You DO need to know all the products of glycolysis and cellular respiration. You need to know everything but intermediates. Remember, the exam is to test you on your understanding, not how well you can memorize the intermediates. But taking biochemistry helps a bunch for the DAT (DNA, replication, transcription, translation, etc). But.. for glycolysis...

glucose -> G6P -> F6P -> F16BP -> DHAP <--> GAP -> 3PG -> 2PG -> PEP -> pyruvate

I know this only because I took a biochem exam two weeks ago. 😛
