I did several searches, but couldn't find anything - apologies in advance if this has been beaten to death.

Here are a few questions on D.O. grade replacement:

1 - What counts as a repeated course? For example, I failed a "history of photography" class 10 years ago which I never attended but neglected to drop. Do I need to take the exact class, with the exact same course number, at the same school? Or will a one-semester course entitled "history of photography" that I take elsewhere suffice?

Retaking a class means retaking the exact same class. Classes are taught differently at different schools, one can't replace the other, as far as I know.

This wasn't the advice I was given when I asked. I was told that a class from a different university would replace the grade as long as they were the same class.

I surely hope someone can clarify on this? This is starting to worry me now. I had planned on retaking a class at my current uni, but if I have to drive 60 miles to take it at my original college that would suck.

Hm, I don't know now. I don't think it would technically replace the old grade, but probably on a more subjective level an actual person looking at the transcripts might take it as a replacement. Perhaps someone should call up AACOMAS or a DO school and ask?

EDIT: someone asked a similar question a few days ago, and emailed AACOMAS. Click http://forums.studentdoctor.net/showthread.php?p=9318625

EDIT: It seems like if you have evidence they are very similar courses, it might work. Check this out: http://more.studentdoctor.net/showthread.php?p=9211112

This is correct, I'm not sure where illegally got his/her original post info.

I have emailed AACOMAS and they said basically along the lines of, if it is a similar class it will replace...the classes don't even have to be the same number of credits. It was also mentioned to me that if AACOMAS switches it so it doesn't count as a retake you can challenge this by providing the college catalogs descriptions and if they match they will change it back.

I got it from a DO who tried and failed to have a class count as a retake. The policy may have changed from when he applied, though. If you see the threads I posted, MLT2MT2DO is correct.

It has probably has changed then. Wasn't trying to be a jerk, I just had never heard "the exact same class from exact same university" comment in reference to retakes.

Yeah I took some original classes at VT and then retakes in a different state entirely and they replaced the Fs no problem.

Well, good comments here. I took a course at a community college that was at one time a branch of the university I attended. It was general chemistry I, and the course description and course number for the two schools was the same. I made a C in that class nine years ago, and I'd like to retake it this summer at the university and make the A. I was under the assumption, being a reasonable and prudent person 😉 , that it'd count for grade replacement with AACOMAS.

Any ideas on science for non-majors. I took a physical science lecture in the summer of 2002 (just to get credits), and of course I had better things to do than go to class so I made a C in it as well. I'm definitely not retaking it, but I'd love for it to not be listed in my science GPA which, with grade replacement, should be pretty high unless of course physical science is stuck in there. ugh

Was the retake less credits than the initial attempt ?
Bumping this question. This is a huge dillema for me. I have F's in a course worth 5 credit hours but my retake was 4 credit hours. Calculus I.

I believe I saw someone in here with the same problem, and they called up AACOMAS and they said it would be fine. I can't find the thread though.

I would suppose it should work though. If not, it would just be an illogical and unfair rule - and in my opinion AACOMAS is very reasonable about things. There are many people who go through multiple universities (or start out at a community college and then go to a university), and not all universities and cc's have matching credit hours for every class.

Appreciate the help. I've e-mailed AACOMAS before (probably a year now) and was told the retake must be greater than or equal to the amount of credit hours of the original course. That was a huge bummer for me but now I'm beginning to think it could probably work out, and it's definitely worth a try.
