So it looks like i'll be going to UDM in August. For those of you going, have you started looking for Apts. yet? I've been looking around online and it looks like southfield or royal oak might be the most convienient. Any suggestions would be helpful. I'm from East lansing so it's not going to be too much of a pain to go over there and check stuff out. Thanks guys. -later

I will be going to Detroit Mercy as well. I heard Livonia and Farmington Hills are good areas too. I have checked the prices for apartments and they are around 500-700$ for one bedroom apartment. Do you know any other good areas to live in Detroit?

Royal Oak is definitely one of the nicer areas. I live there right now and it probably has the most "young professionals" of any Detroit suburbs. There is a nice, walkable downtown too with great restaurants and bars. There are several coffee shops that are nice for studying during the week or during the day on weekends. There are a ton of rooms for rent on Craislist.org. I live in a bungalow on a quiet street with lots of young families but I'm only a 10-15 minute walk from downtown. If I go to UDM I'm definitely staying in Royal Oak - I highly recommend it.
