Are there any current UDM students here? I have some questions about the school and would really really appreciate it if you could answer some. 🙂

1. Do you get your own chair in the clinic?
2. Are there enough facutly members around to help/look at your work in the sim lab and the clinic?
3. I've heard that you have tests every few weeks for most classes, does this make it hard to keep up with everything?

Thanks!

1. you do get your own chair in clinic and in UHC (off campus and located in detroit hospital) 3rd years you're in clinic either MON&WED, or TUES&THURS and every other friday. the other days you're doing rotations in endo, pedo, and oral surgery clinics where you see patients or assist (like in endo). 4th year, for example, if you're in clinich MON&WED on compus, then you go to the off campus clinic for the other days.
2. there are enough instructors and during critical days where we have to learn something important, they devide the class in half for 2-3 days of the semeser to get a better student/instructor ratio.sometimes an instructor will stay at school after 5 to help out students who have questions.. on a regular day the ratio is about 10:1 with a couple floater instructors and the course director ( about 85-93) students per class. sim lab has 100 chairs
3. we do have a lot of tests and that prepares you well for the boards. last year we had 0 failures on the boards (placed 1st)
If you want to be in the top of the class you have to be busy all the time for the first 2 years especially 2nd year.

the facilities are 3 years old which is a plus and it's wireless
If you have specific questions, PM me

good luck

You get your own chair? Faculty members a plenty?! Sounds like I should transfer over there. Do you know any good spots for margaritas JB?

Thanks jbbDDS!!! 😀

UCFpremed: it def. sounds like an awesome school

1. You do not get your own chair but there are enough chairs (not a worry). They are increasing the class size so now it WILL be a problem. (they have already increased the size by more than 20 students per class [>25%])
2. There are NOT enough faculty. No school has enough faculty. You will spend more time WAITING AROUND and chasing after faculty and getting signitures and doing paperwork than you will ever spend doing real dentistry. Dental school is not about dentistry, it is about fulfilling a bunch of requirements (mostly paperwork and junk!, SERIOUSLY)
3. You will eventually get to the point where you don't study much except for the morning of the quizzes or the night before the exams. I know very few students who put more than a nights or mornings study into exams and quizzes. You will get to the point where you don't care about doing well, you just care to pass, nothing more. The quality of teaching at UDMSD is sooo terrible that there is no point in putting in the extra effort. It won't help. It's an impossible situation. You are basically in survival mode and do whatever you can to get by!!! Sorry but that is the reality of the situation!
