Detroit programs

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I liked Kresge when I interviewed there last year. They have a large class size (7 residents) and a great retina department. Dr. Abrams is one of the pioneers of vitreoretinal surgery though I'm not sure how much longer he intends on practicing. This was may favorite detroit program by far.

Interviewed at all the Michigan programs and Henry Ford was my favorite. Least malignant of all programs while still being very clinically strong. I did a rotation at Kresge as well and ranked it about 5 spots lower than Ford. Just my two cents.

Can't those in the know talk a little bit more about Detroit?

I know the residents and programs seemed to talk up the metro area being "on the rebound" and has bad areas like "any other city" (Which sounds like downplaying to me). And then you hear stories from med students at Wayne State that say 30+ classmates have had their cars vandalized and broken into during med school and it makes me hesitant to live and/or raise a family in that type of environment.
