Since English is my second language maybe that is the problem I don't know. I thought the Verbal and Biological Science sections were OK. I thought I would get at least a 26. I applied to both MD and DO. Do you know if being beautiful helps for schools that require pictures? or is everything so rigid and a 16 is totally unacceptable under all conditions ? my GPA is 3.8, I'm so desperate, I really want to get in this cycle, what else can I do?

About the being beautiful-you are kidding right? Sixteen is a lethal score for any med school unless you or your family offers to build a new wing on the school or something like that. The real issue is that you'll be a reapp at those 30 schools you have applied to and submitted sec etc. I'm sorry for your circumstances.

Do you all think I should withdraw MD and retake in November for DO?

Sorry what is a pod school?

podiatry school which issues a Doctor of Podiatry Medicine (DPM). Pod students like to think of themselves as foot doctors/surgeons. Pod physicians earn a 6 figure salary and a comfortable lifestyle.

the high tier pod schools like AZPOD have an average mcat score of 22-23 while the low tier or large pod schools have an average closer to 20. The low tier or large pod schools do accept applicants with 17-18 mcat so they may consider you. No harm in contacting NYCPM, Kent, Scholl, barry etc. and asking them.

People think you are pranking us (trolling) because you asked if being pretty would help. That is why they are being mean. They think you started it.

I'm going to pretend you are real, just in case you are.

Withdraw the MD application entirely. That way, when you reapply next year, maybe you can avoid being seen as a re-applicant.

Keep the DO applications in play. Take the November MCAT. Kill it. With all the prep you've been doing, and all you can do between now and that test, you have a slim chance of getting into a DO school with an awesome score.

If that doesn't work out, you can still take the new MCAT next year.

This solution gives you a way to maybe make this year work out, if that 16 was just a total fluke, while not ruining your chances for next year's MD applications.

I feel sorry too which is why I posted to seek advice. I have been so depressed it's killing me. But I will take Goro's advice and withdraw all MDs for now and retake the MCAT in November for DOs.

I think that is the best solution. It gives you the most options and lets you keep some hope of getting in this year.

Ok this sounds good thank you very much.

It isn't just the verbal score. You would be auto screened on every subsection. If you really think you can bring all subsections up by 3-4 points try a retake in November.. I really think you need to take some time, visit the learning center at your college and see if they can help you uncover how this happened. You said you study for several months, 6 days a week fir many hours a day. Obviously there is a huge glitch in your Studying method, content knowledge etc.

Whats wrong with taking a gap year to make sure you nail the MCAT the second time around?
I wouldn't mind if I were younger, I'm 25, I want to enter medical school next year so I can have time to make my babies.

I want to be an oncologist that wouldn't be possible I think.

Thank you all for the great advice, I feel a little better now knowing that I have a plan and I still have a chance for this cycle. I was so depressed guys thank you for comforting me, hopefully I will nail the MCAT this second time.

My scores were between 22-28 on the AAMCs. SO should I withdraw my application or just wait to be rejected by all schools? I'm so mad, do I have a chance to get in with a 16? The rest of my application is solid, I have a master degree one publication and strong ECs.
You have no chance with a 16 to get into any medical school. What you need to do is retake. Even a 24 would probably get you into some DO schools if your ECs are solid.

Yes you are right am retaking in November for DOs.

If you have poor standardized test taking scores and oncology is the only reason you want to be a physician, I would highly discourage you from even applying at all. Oncology is an extremely competitive field that is very board score dependent. You'd probably end up stuck in IM and miserable unless you would be okay with the life of a general internist.

And I'm ignoring all the things about looks. No one cares what you look like, and we've got a good mix of people from all over the looks and weight spectrum in my school.

People are mean on SDN. In medicine, certain fields are nastier than others, but most people are alright. It definitely helps to have thick skin though, no matter your field.
True, but i think it s my nature to be sensitive that s why i try very hard not to offend anyone and i apologize even when am right, but im working on it.

Why the negative tone? Like i said earlier, i hope to do better next time. You dont have to discourage me without knowing my second scores.

Sarcastic ? I was just desperate, that s why i said that.

Not at all.

You'd just have to be incredibly beautiful. Assuming you've already got a Nobel prize or MacArthur grant.

No biggie.

I'm being realistic, which is entirely different from being negative. When it comes to standardized tests, past results are fairly indicative of future performance. It is unlikely you will have board scores high enough to make it into oncology down the road, especially if you end up at a DO school (because you'll need to have even higher scores than the average as a DO). Think carefully about your motivations for becoming a physician so you don't make a 400k mistake.

OP, you brought this down upon your own head with the ill-timed comment of:

But maybe an adcom could see the potential in me because I'm attractive and undermine the MCAT score which cannot really speak for all the knowledge and competence I possess right?

So that's why some of these people have gone overboard and are dumping on you. Ignore them.

What do you mean?

Ok if you say so. Let s see how I do next time.

You will be a re-applicant at all MD schools to which you applied whether you withdraw or not.
You do not have to actively withdraw, just don't complete the secondaries.
You will be considered a "passive withdrawal."

Really? I have already completed most secondaries, what should I do then? My status is currently "Complete Pending New MCATS".

You don't have to do anything. There is no advantage to withdrawing.
On second thought, you might feel better notifying the schools that you are withdrawing rather than suffering the rejections.

Ok if I would still be a re-applicant either way I will just wait for my new MCAT then, hopefully I improve. Someone said above that if I withdrew I wouldn't be considered a re-applicant I guess it s not the case.

Do not re-take the MCAT until you are scoring well above your target score! Another bad outcome would reflect very poorly on your judgement. It is far better to delay your application than rush and sour chances for the future. Most schools will not accept an MCAT taken this late for the current cycle (even if you have already applied).

I agree, 2 low MCAT scores would definitely look worse, it's so hard to decide.

Have you thought about podiatry or PA school?

You don't decide. You make an assessment, develop a strategy and implement it.
I mean deciding between taking it in November or next year for next cycle. I don't want to wait another year, at the same time I don't want to have 2 bad scores, I can't rely on my practice scores, i was getting between 22 and 31 on all the practice exams I took, my average was 26 which I didn't mind getting on the real exam, but I scored way below my average.

Have you thought about podiatry or PA school?
No because I really want to be an oncologist, i have been doing cancer research for years and I'm really passionate about oncology.

This may be decided for you since there are very few seats left for these dates. It is quite unlikely that a score of 16 can be remediated in such a short interval, especially a 4 VR. It would likely take quite some time.

Think about it like this...

If you rush to take it in November and do poorly, you probably will jeopardize you chance of ever getting into med school.

If you take a gap year to study for the MCAT and bolster you application with more volunteering, shadowing, etc., you can make yourself even more competitive for next cycle. Do well on the MCAT + more ECs + your good GPA and you stand a good shot.

In the grand scheme of your whole life, one extra year between undergrad and med school will seem totally insignificant, even if it doesn't seem so now.
