can somebody explain to me how people are performing double blocks on medicare patients, when there is a restriction of 6 units per a 6 month period. This would only allow 3 intra articular facet injections (or 4 MBB) once bilaterally, not twice. We are not paid to perform double blocks, so move on to RFA after one block. I blame medicare's restriction of benefits (as of 10/2008) for conflicting with ISIS guidlines our pain management guidelines.
I have at least a dozen epidural levels (ie. individual 64484 levels not paid) under review and going to a medicare 'judge' to determine whether multilevel epidurals are 'allowable' by medicare. I am curious to see the outcome....
