do you think how straight and white your teeth are play any roles during admission? do adcom award those who take good care of their teeth? serious question here 🙂

i would rate my teeth above average, and could use some whitening. but do you hear of anyone going as far as getting veneers to impress at the interviews?

Lol. You are too cute.

imo, I don't think that really matters, as long as you look clean. =P

Yeah, I don't think it matters much either as long as you don't have huge buildup etc. but, they do look. In one of my interviews, a girl was singled out of our group for having "perfect teeth" even though she never had braces. My teeth aren't perfect. As a matter of fact, one of my front one's was knocked out in a bicycling accident when I was young and, though it isn't extremely noticeable, could probably use to be replaced. My dental insurance won't cover that much of it and it is fairly expensive, so I haven't had it done yet. One of the interviewers said "you know when you come here, we will fix that front tooth for free." I was all excited... felt kind of like I was on Oprah. 🙂

That does bring up a good point. I was really impressed with many of the smiles I saw on applicants at my interviews. Some had these amazing smiles. I'm pretty sure the adcoms notice. I don't think they use your smile to size you up, but they subconsciously prefer a perfect smile over a snaggly one, I'll bet. Many of those perfect smiles had dentist parents. It must be nice - you get really, really good teeth!!!

# 1) I didn't not smile for the photos that they took...infact, I looked like an angry criminal in all of their photos.
#2) I ran into a wall before one of my interviews...got a huge bump on my forehead. When I say huge...i mean "ginormous"

.....And I got accepted

What? You mean they didn't do a full mouth check up on you during your interview? If they found a single cavity you were out.

Naa. I have had my fair share of cavities. But I am sure as long as they don't see a large build up of plaque on your teeth, and you appear to have good oral hygiene, it doesn't really matter. You also have to realize, that you should have some good looking teeth to be a dentist, so that you aren't preaching to your patients to floss more or need some veneers, if it looks like you could use some work yourself.

Whether they did it consciously or not, they did notice your teeth. If you spend enough time around a dental office, you'll notice that when you meet someone, the first thing you always notice is their smile. So your interviewers did notice, but I doubt they used a liekert scale to give you a smile score.

hahah this is a great question. A day before my interview I freaked out and called my dentist to ask her if I should whiten my teeth!

I think they want to see that you look presentable. They won't do a dental check up but definitely they will look to see if you are made out to be in this profession.

Heck I check everyone's teeth when I talk to them. Is it just the pre-dental mind set or maybe everyone does it?

After what I spent on my teeth they better look perfect...🙂

But really, I did it for myself- im pretty sure that it didnt make any diffrence in any one of my interviews...but for sure nice smile looks better- I hope u all agree with my future dentists lol

Everyone in the dental profession checks out people's teeth. I once had lunch with an orthodontist who barely looked me in the eye when I spoke - instead, he just stared at my teeth (my lower teeth could use a bit of straightening).

Now I know what girls with big boobs must go through.
